Yeah, you want your overflow to handle a lot more than your pump.

or you can run a ball valve/gate valve on the return pump to dial it down but IME the best bet is to get a small pump. Underpowering the overflow will keep drain noise to a minimal.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I'm also planning to use a fine mesh back for it. If I have space in my 10 gallon sump, I can try putting it there. If not, I'll put it on the HOB.

There's never a good deal for any fish stuff on CL in my area. Long Island is such an overpriced place lol. Someone here is selling their 175 gallon with built in overflow and stand/canopy for $350 in CA. I bought my 150 gallon tank with stand and 2 canister filters for $575. :irked:

If you put it in the sump you dont need the bag, you can vaccum it wich would make maintenance easy,

Wait your in ny on long island, lol me to.

You can def find great deals if you stay on top of it. Those high priced tanks never sell used aquarium stuff is a buyers market

I got an awsome deal recently..... 155 bow with 2 oveeflows, wood stand, glass covers, lights 2 dual t8 matching wood grain, biggest mega flow sump with a years worth of new media and pads, 2 hob filters with a more than a years worth of rplacement pads, 2 boxes of chemicals, 3 large fish (9" chocolate, 11" albino oscar, 10" sun cat), one of those canisters with uv, tons of decor, and the guy helped be carry/transport in his van.... $500 for all....It was like xmas

Wow...I'm totally envious now. That's such a great deal! I just bought mine like a month ago and I was looking in CL for about 3+ weeks before I finally settled on the one I bought. I never saw anything remotely close to what you found and those that seem cheap didn't really have the tanks in good condition. Someone was trying to sell a 150 gallon tank with stand/canopy for $180 but the glass was full of scratches and has chips on the side. I figured even if it doesn't leak, I won't be happy looking at that tank.

In any case, I was told before that for plants/refugium, I should have a slow flow rate. So I was thinking of getting either an Eshopps PF-300 or PF-800 for an overflow box. And a Hydor Koralia Evolution 550 or 750. What do you think? Is that a good match? Do you guys have a better recommendation for my setup? 150 gallon display tank and 10 gallon plant sump.

If you have an android device download the cl app and it will notify you as soon as somthing is posted under the description of your choice

Yea I hear you. The 155 was the 3 rd one I bought on cl

I think a 10 gal sump may be to small, Id go with the biggest you can fit under the tank

Were on the Island are you

I live in Hicksville. Where are you from?

I guess that makes sense lol. I was thinking of going bigger but is it hard to DIY a 'real' sump? I was just planning to put a craft mesh to keep the roots from getting to the pump. No baffles or anything.
