Best gun for home defense?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didnt read all the way threw but imo a benili nova defense model is a overlooked choice about the same price as the 590 or a decent 870 and they are way easier to tear down to clean. I have all three choices. But always practice practice shot guns are always intemidating and with light loads and low recoil shells you have a lot of options.

Im sorry but whoever offered canine as a suitable pet is crazy.
Anything other than a shark with a frickin laser beam on mfk for
a trusty protector is unsuitable. Dogs are like blasphemy. Just dig
a saltwater moat. Also a piston system 16 gauge shotgun is more than enough
stopping power without a whole lot of kick. A pump is a completly
different weapon system recoil wise.

Only issue with 16s(and im a HUGE 16ga fan) is the semi limited ammo selection. Just takes longer to find ammo, and costs more. Worth it imo though.

And only 12ga slugs id ever run in a HD setting is those plastic slugs with steel cutting petals. Forget the name atm.

I gotcha but those are the car companies luxury brands, the Mossberg 500 already is relatively cheap compared to some shotgun brands so where does the Maverick brand come in at?

The maverick 88 is a cheaper version of the mossberg 500, Yes the mossberg 500 is pretty inexpensive for someone who has multiple guns, and a lot of experience or very specific needs. I havent looked up prices recently but from memory the 88 is like 189, and the 500 is 350 huge price difference for someone who wants the shotty in the house just in case.

End of the day I agree with you ... Really no difference besides price and they are both bottom of the scale.

I have a Mossberg 930 SPX sitting on my bed side and yes it does shoot that fast. My brother and I both have one, very nice, no issues as of yet, even with ghost loading.

Mossberg 930 SPX has reports of failure to eject from many people around the ar15 forums.

Guess you guys got the better batch.

I'm trying to remember, didnt they make some changes with this gun, I think I remember something about this and I got the newest version out. I will have to look it up to make sure.

They did, I have the 3rd Generation.

From another forum

I'm currently doing research on the 930 SPX right, and saw that the 3rd gen 930 SPXs have a round charging handle, and the gas tube spring is lower-powered, allowing better compatability with the plinking/target rounds. From what I read, as long as its a 3rd Gen, it'll be good to go.
