Best gun for home defense?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This aint a bad suggestion too. The hi point carbine is a good choise. Get it in 9mm, load it down with a flavor of winchestor LEO ammo(rangers, bonded, ranger T, PDX) or something like corbon solid copper or leigh defence ME or CF line. Man those CF, mmmmmmmm.

Of course plenty of quality ammo for cheaper.

I have 135 grain Hornady Critical Duty +P in mine for home defense, but there are better options out there for different uses.

Hard to argue with the efficacy of a well trained dog!

I had a fully trained K9 as my personal dog. He was trained and willing to make combat at the drop of a hat. He was also of the most steady temperament and even personality you could hope to meet; he was able to go anywhere and was approachable by anyone, but he didn't lend himself to making friends indiscriminately. He was IMO the perfect dog. A big teddy bear with his family but a fearsome wall of slobber and teeth to an intruder.

Twice he has deterred breakins. When I was stationed in Ft Sill Oklahoma, I ended up living in a less than savory part of Lawton. My friend Shawn came over and we did bite work in clear view of the low income housing at the end of the street. You could always tell when an individual of ill repute walked past the house; they went out of the way to avoid walking in the street on the other side of the road! The craziest thing about this is a year into my time at Ft Sill, I bought a house in a better part of town. The original house I was living in was broken into, the day after I moved out!

Sadly my boy passed last November. I hope to get another one of similar bloodlines sometime soon.

The view bad guys got! He was actually barking on the command of "speak" to get this picture lol

And after doing some bite work with the low income housing in the background!

Nice guy, I've got a Germans shepherd husky hybrid and he's huge now, gotta love every dog :D

shotgun is the best home defense weapon. not just the noise of a pump will scare the you know what out of an intruder, but the spray pattern will hit um if your not a great marksman

Id personally
Well actually have a 375 magnum,
Berreta(9mm), double barrel shotgun, I recently gave my .45 to my brother well traded for .38 super planning on AR15 next christmas ;)

Good choise. Hows it hold up against a row of water jugs from ur carbine? Alot of 9mms dont hold up well out of one.

Face palm.

This is the company I mentiomed few posts back. A PA company near me. Great ammo but pricey. The ME line is insane but the CF line is the craziest ammo iv seen in awhile. I want to get a 45/70 lever action and that will actually be my HD weapon loaded with thier CF round. Look at brassfetcher.com and watch the 45/70 CF video. Good god.

Honestly the best home defense weapon is a revolver. .38 special is perfect size and the simplicity of a revolver makes it ideal for situations where you or your loved one may be nervous or in a rush. No safety, no clip loading, no jamming (in a well kept nice gun), and packs plenty of firepower. People make me laugh with these giant caliber guns, any gun will put a man down and the average number of shots fired in home defense is 2 so the lack of bullets a revolver has compared to other guns is largely irrelevant. My opinion: buy a NAME BRAND .38 special revolver. Snubnose or 6" barrel.

I would agree with you on principle, however I feel to truly be effective with a revolver one must practice quite a bit to become proficient. Don't misunderstand me, I view that to be a good thing, I just recognize that a lot of people might not have the time, resources and access to a range neccessary to pull off the practice. A double action trigger also has the problem of having a very heavy trigger pull that will make the application of the fundamentals of marksmanship much more difficult, and the use of a single action revolver has problems that strike me as self evident. Again though, either of these issues could be overcome with practice. I have a .44 mag Ruger Super Blackhawk that I use for hog hunting and I can effectively put all six rounds on target over open sights in about 10 seconds with very hot rounds. How? Practice. :)

I feel for your average person without the time or inclination to practice a lot, some like (and as a 1911 guy I shudder to say this) a Glock would be ideal. They'll shoot anything, they're simple to maintain and you can clean it by throwing it in the dishwasher. I feel that weapons such as a Glock 19 are ideal for MOST people in a self defense situation due to the simplicity of use. :)

Im sorry but whoever offered canine as a suitable pet is crazy.
Anything other than a shark with a frickin laser beam on mfk for
a trusty protector is unsuitable. Dogs are like blasphemy. Just dig
a saltwater moat. Also a piston system 16 gauge shotgun is more than enough
stopping power without a whole lot of kick. A pump is a completly
different weapon system recoil wise.

That was me with the dog.

You make a valid point sir, I apologize for my blasphemy!
