Please explain how a titanium heater with a controller will have a malfunction? They aren't going to explode, it's TITANIUM. And they are run on a controller, so they won't cook your fish. Sure, it's possible they might have SOME malfunction, but not those two main concerns that will kill your fish/tank.

The titanium heating elements are fine.
The external controllers are the problem.
They can malfunction by becoming stuck in on position, which overheats the tank and cooks your livestock.

I have used 2 in the past. Both times the controllers have failed. One failed with no power, the other failed by the thermostate didn't shut down overheating the tank. I will never recommend any vital equipment for the aquarium that is made in China. They have very poor QC standards.

ive never had a controller die. im thinking its user error.

a lot of these problems can be avoided by using two smaller sized heaters for your tank.

if one fails OFF, the other kicks on and your fish are safe

if one fails ON, the other doesn't come on and your fish are still safe safe.

if both fail off or on at the exact same time, well, go and buy a lottery ticket because the chances of that are about zero :)

What I have is marineland visi therm I was pretty happy cause price was cheap and then boom, it hit I was having heater failure left and right I lost 400w which does a 125 gallon then I lost a 300w witch does a 80 gallon I was able to send back the 400w and then gave me a new one and I was pretty happy. So I open it up and was getting ready to use it and notice a rattling inside so I box back up and now I'm in the process of sending back 3 heaters so far :bs:. So I have a couple of Fluval E series have to say price is not back but overall liking alot:headbang2

I use visitherms and stealth pros in my tanks and they work like a charm. But if i didnt use those i would probably pick a good quality kerosene heater, I like the smell too :)

You ever use a Ranco controller?

BTW, the Via-Aqua was a metal heater. Three separate components to it, the control, the sensor and the heater itself. What probably went bad was the sensor, but I don't really know. It just went cold one day and I was in too much of a hurry to track down a new heater to muck about with the old one and just threw it away.

But five years is not bad. I feel satisfied with the product.

I never mentioned anything about a Titanium heater exploding. All I said was that all brands will have their malfunctions. I don't have any experience with Titanium heaters with controllers, but I'm sure there are some out there. Personally, I don't like having too much clutter under my tanks and a controller will just be another thing under the tank. I prefer the set dial on my heaters.
