Plants- Nature Aquarium in Santa Monica has a good selection (Stock is mainly Aquarium Plant friendly)

I dont know if they still have it, but they had a huge arrow in there like mid late january.

They also have a small saltwater section that appears to be the "specials of the week" whatever other stores have.

Its pretty sad, and never filled out, but it is a neat little store. The sushi place next door is okay as well. :D

Freshwater- Jims Exotic Fish They take care of their fish pretty good compared to most places ive been

Best hole in the wall is a tie....
Tokyo Aquarium and Toms Tropical Fish

I dont think I have been to Toms but Tokyo is okay...they have some nice fish. Last time I went there a guy approached me outside and pulled a betta in a cup out of his shirt...which he proceeded to try and give me. One of the weirdest encounters I have ever had.

Best SoCal Vendors.... (in no order) Infinate Aquatics, All Happy, Fugupuff and Charlie n the Factory is surely getting there :D (all JMO)

I dont know if I have been to infinite, but the name sound familiar...no to all happy, and I need to check out fugupuff and charlie...I think my brother has been to charlie's.

Tongs blew me away...there were like 6-8" arrowanas there for $19!

Crazy...there are other stores I like...I have to give a shout out to Age of Aquariums my brother does some web design for them, and they have a pretty cool selection of saltwater fish sometimes.

I also liked Rainbow Fish....enough so that I sent back two fish from there to central wisconsin, as far as saltwater fish selection goes, that place is insane...they also had a lot of cool freshwater stuff while I was there, and their discus tank made my brother into a discus guy.

Figured I would chime in, I love your guys stores, cant wait to get out again and poke around some more. One month was not enough time in SoCal to check the fish shops :D

i live in orange and ive been trying to go to every lfs around me. ill start with the bad.

new wave tropical fish- the store is dark and all the tanks always look dirty and tons of dead fish. the owners are real push and tell you anything to make a sale. they also sell the dyed fish imo horrible thing to do to a fish

exotic fish and corals- cool clean looking store great corals but very limited selection of fresh water

coral island- nice store great selection of oddball fish at times, but high prices

pacific reef- great store always has larger oscars and pacu great salt and fresh livestock always something different. mike is a great guy and will always help you out but doesnt seem to hesitate to sell fish in bad combinations.

ocean blue- so far the only lfs that is more concerned about the fish living than making a sale. they have a great selection of awesome tanks large sizes different designs. great corals and saltwater fish every employee is very knowledgeable. the fresh water selection is the best in the area that i have seen so far always new healthy livestock. they also ussually have some nice bigger fish in stock at most times. always friendly and my lfs of choice.

I went into Trekkers Tropical Fish the other day.
It used to be known as Aloha Tropical, but was recently bought and the name changed.
Really cool place, good Fresh selection, pretty nice Salt too, a few tanks for sale.
They have two 22-24'' Black arowana right now for $300 each. 12'' silver for like $20 too.
Bunch of african cichlids, some 2-3'' Pbass for $20 I wanted.. lots of nice stuff. Didn't see any dead fish there either.

I regularly stop at the Reef Tropical Fish off of State College in Anaheim. They have a really good selection of freshwater fish and plants. T (the owner) is a great guy and honest as well.

I also check out Tongs in Fountain Valley, Tikki's Tropical Fish in Bellflower, Strictly Fish in Lakewood, and Toms in Long Beach.
