Hi,

I have some large CA/SA Cichlids, and i need to split them up as they are having a personality clash...

I have Egg Crate and Perspex, which is best?

I have been told to use perspex because the fish can hurt their mouths on egg crate.

I have been told to use egg crate because it is stronger, allows better flow.

How can egg crate hurt the fish?

Which is it?

thanks

Only way i really see damage is if using the incomplete method with holes when pairing fish, when there are hole in the divider allowing the smaller fish (usually female) to pass through.

So if I was just trying to keep 2 big angry fish apart it would be ok?

The only thing I could think of with egg crate is sharp edges from being manufactured, but if all of those have been sanded smooth then I don't see how it could cause any damage.

I have heard of fish damaging their jaws on eggcrate, but never experienced it in my tanks, and I use it.
Just make sure it is stable. I use vertical pieces on the bottom and sides for stability, and prevent areas along the glass with enough room fish try to slip thru, and cut a notch so the tank rim fits tightly.
