I used egg crate and zip tied suction cups to the top for support. Held up strong with over 8000gph in my atf tank. Just jammed the bottom into my substrate

I agree, a large, sexually charged cichlid can easily topple an unsecured divider, so along with vertical pieces, I put heavy stones on both sides of the divider on the horizontal parts, the stones also afford a place for the female to put eggs, if she is so inclined.

That is very cool!!! how did you make that with the egg crate? I just have a piece wedged in with a few suction cups and the midas pushed the whole thing up and out of the water last night!

The only damage I've experienced were with 2 flowerhorns that pretty much wanted to kill each other so bad... that they didn't care that their mouths were getting all mess up.
I secure the egg crates with the snap-lock suction hooks from lowes.

Egg Crate. Its not that complicated. Anything you can think of to help support it will likely work. My Trimac has scuffed her face up a few time trying to bash through it and reach her target. But no real damage. It's healed in less than a WC.
Egg Crate is best bar far unless you have an elaborate bridge setup with slotted dividers and such.
