To wedge into the tank rim, I break off a vertical side in 1 of the squares with a needle nose pliers
Vertical pieces perpendicular to the main piece help stabilize it. I use zip ties to fasten on the bottom and in the main piece, any excess I weave thru the squares for better hold.
Stones , wood, or anything heavy is put on the bottom horizontal pieces to bolster the main pieces stability.
