Best material for a tank divider

I took some close ups today, hope this helps. Notice the divider is higher than water level, I've seen sexually charged males jump and slide over, if not built high enough.
To wedge into the tank rim, I break off a vertical side in 1 of the squares with a needle nose pliers

Vertical pieces perpendicular to the main piece help stabilize it. I use zip ties to fasten on the bottom and in the main piece, any excess I weave thru the squares for better hold.

Stones , wood, or anything heavy is put on the bottom horizontal pieces to bolster the main pieces stability.

Eggcrate is no more dangerous than the ornaments already in most peoples tanks. As inglorious said make sure there are no sharp edges and its pretty harmless. The only way to ensure fish don't hurt their mouths on any divider is to make it opaque, but that kills circulation. Eggcrate all the way

I completely disagree. Eggcrate is sharp and I doubt fish bite ornaments like they do a divider when attacking another fish. Plexi all the way, not to mention eggcrate just looks cheap...

The only sharp pieces of egg crate are those left exposed after a cut if they arent cleaned up. I completely agree that plexi wont have such problems (as long as the edges are rounded) and it does look much better. Plexi will kill circulation unless is has much ventilation in it. I'm not knocking plexi at all, but for the extra cost and work required to allow water to freely flow through it i use eggcrate instead. Used it a bunch over the years and never had problems. I think each person needs to make their own decision on what they like best

I am at a bit of a loss,I don't understand where these sharp parts are on the egg crate?

It's it because they are thin?

I have a different suggestion if this is the case, have you seen the bread crates that bakeries use to transport loaves of baked bread, the bottom of these crates is like a grid but much thicker than egg crate...

Would using these be better than egg crate, as the flow rate would stay high, but the fish can't hurt them selves.

my istlanum male got his face busted up off constantly charging egg crate so i have got both plexi glass and also egg crate, i use the egg crate when ever possible as the water flow is better but for more aggressive fish i use the plexi.

My I just feel that way b/c I keep Flowerhorns and If I don't use plexi, they will tear themselves up on eggcrate b/c the edges are sharp.
