Fish Finder, I was at your store today and purchased some of your live Fiji rock, it is really beautiful. I actually bought everything you had in stock, I definitely will be back. Listen people, if you are anywhere near the neighborhood stop there, it will definitely be worth your trip. They have incredible knowledge, livestock and equipment. The owners will sit down and talk with you, educating you for as long as you need. This type of service is unheard of. They are only two fish stores that will give you this type of service and this is definitely one of them.

Thank you so much Fish Finder. Maybe someday we will actually meet there. I will be working where close to your store in the near future and will be visiting your store alot.

you bought it all, LIVE?
just get some base rock. it's way cheaper and will become live soon enough.

can you suggest a good base rock to start with? I know you can't use lava rock, because you all told me to take out the red rock when I purchased the tank. So what is it I am looking for when I look for my bass line rock?

you wan something that wont leak particle/elements into your water.
moon rock is good
sandstone
aragonite anything
anything made out of quartz
inert stuff, anything w/o metal in it that will corrode in saltwater.

I have this gray rock that looks something like concrete with a lot of holes in it, do you think it would be safe to use it?
It was in the tank when I bought it and it was used for African cichlids. I'm not sure if this is just another type of lava rock and if I can use it. Everyone is telling me I can't use the red rock, why is that? You know I have to say thank you for being so helpful. I promise that as I become more proficient in this part of the hobby I will pass on the knowledge I have gained from all of you.

um, if you can get a pic of it that would help. does it have the same # and size hole as the red rock did? there are a bunch of different kinds of volcanic rock that form like that. most of it is used for gardening. which is actually a good place to get aquarium rocks. just wash em really good and put em in your tank. pretty much any smooth rock that looks like it's been beat on for a century or two will be good. rocks that dissolve bend to be more brittle and just turn to dust, instead of a smaller rock.
if that makes sense.

I know it's hard to see, but it is the gray rock that is in the picture. Now it has larger, less holes then the red rock

other than the holes can you define it's texture/grain?
