Best Poly For A 40G Breeder?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was just thinking... It may be easier to recommend a specific poly if you actually see the setup they are going in.

So here are a couple pictures from last week. Just note that the only difference between these pictures and the tank right now, is the plants in the front are now gapped slightly +/- 8" so the driftwood is more visible.

If seeing the tank doesn't change anything, that's fine too. ;)

If you're into albino bichir the get some albino senegalus and you could probably get a pair. Average max size of albino sene are 7-9 inches. They rarely even get up to 10"+ even in bigger tanks. Some senalagus also have an average max size of 10-12". They rarely pass 13"+.

As for the mokelembembe, most of them I've seen have stunted growth that's why they stay smaller. If you go to Japan and you could actually see some 12-13"+ wild caught mokelembembe.

Nice setup man! Sens or mokes would love that tank!

Any that I listed would be fine its really a matter of much you want to spend
P.senegalus can be bought for $5.99-6.99 at Petsmart or Petco. The others figure$30.00 on up-Anne

I should also add I have a low PH, at 6.0-6.2... Polys would be alright after being acclimated, right?

edited for more accurate PH

Whatever your tap water PH is, just stick to that. Bichirs can tolerate a wide range of PH. Don't play too much with your PH or you will have a PH roller coaster. It's not good for the fish.

That's all I needed to know. ;)

Thanks.

He's right! If your tap is naturally low then don't worry too much, but be cautious when acclimating just in case, you seem to know whats up though Stump, so I'm not worried for you.

Thanks... I appreciate all the help. :)

I am also going to call a tiny little pet shop a few towns over, and see if they can order me anything... weigh my options...
