For smaller fish I do the clove oil/freezer. For big fish I've chopped off thier heads with a cleaver. Just make sure to do it with one swift clean strike. Oh, and I cover their heads with a paper towel, I can't stand to see them looking at me gasping. Of course, I still have bad dreams about it for days afterwards.

ummmm sorry if i couldnt smack them on the counter i sure couldnt chop off his head . Im looking for a less freddie kruger method lol
You can put him in a container of water. Then place him in the freezer. The colder the water temp the fish will slow down & then he will die peacfully. Good luck

They will freeze to death and sufffer. How about if you had a dog who was to old and was suffering would you put him in the freezer to put him down? No becuase that would make him suffer. I think the freezer would only be good for reptiles since they do slow down the lower the temp.
I use clove oil extract from a drug store, and when they've stopped breathing I either give them a healthy dose of high proof alcohol and repeat the latter for myself or feed them to a garbage disposal, and again give myself some alcohol.

Euthanization is a very touchy subject. Most people will agree or disagree with the methods used.
Definitely clove oil for me. Striking a fish with a blunt object in a swift manner will also do the job although it seems a bit inhumane to me.

I guess if ya know the anatomy of the fish and can assure 100% you'll hit the brain then it's a viable option, I think beheading the fish have a better success rate.
i think most of us agree that a freezer isnt a good humane way to put a fish down so lets just stop talking bout puttin it in the freezer
