Not wanting a flame war but...
I've decapitated fish used a hammer smacked on the counter ect and in my younger days tried the freezer ..

The best method for me is put them to sleep with clove oil put the water and clove oil mixture with the fish in the freezer he wont feel a thing , it relates to surgery on humans first they anesthetise you and they can perform any surgery they like painless to the person.

No I actually kinda disagree. Tropical fish slow down when you lower the water temp, what do you think happens in the freezer. Sorta like dropping you off in the artic sea. After about 3 minutes you'll be so disoriented you won't feel anything anyways.

I do think clove oil is the best, but the freezer has to be better than chopping heads or a pellet gun.

This best way to kill a fish without causing any pain to the fish is to put him to sleep, this is done by scooping him up in a small container with his own water and then sticking him into the freezer, he will go to sleep then die peacefully.

thats basically suffocating

BS?!?!?! :irked: Dude. I got it from here...
Tell the University of Washington that it's BS. Seems alot better than putting a fish in a glass of Vodka. :screwy:

University of Washington's IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) approved protocols for fish euthanasia.

UW Euthanasia of Fish Species - 2002
Approved July 18, 2002

Exposure to a solution saturated with carbon dioxide (CO2):
When possible, carbon dioxide should be used from a compressed gas cylinder source. However, neither the 1993 nor the 2000 Report of the AVMA Panel on Euthanasia address the issue of the source/production of carbon dioxide as it relates to aquatic animal species. The use of chemical methods for the production of carbon dioxide, such as a saturated solution of sodium bicarbonate or Alka-Seltzer ®, has been proven quite effective with fish as noted in the literature. When dosed adequately sodium bicarbonate renders rapid loss of consciousness and death (4,6). As a result, the use of carbon dioxide liberated by chemical means will also be acceptable for the euthanasia of fish when compressed carbon dioxide gas cylinders cannot be used. Individuals who have demonstrated competency with this technique to qualified personnel (i.e. aquatic animal veterinarian or his/her designate) should perform the euthanasia of fish by carbon dioxide.

Sodium bicarbonate dosage: (30g/L or 120g/gallon)

Alka-Seltzer ® dosage: (1 tablet/ 20L or 2 tablets/ 10gallons)
Note: Fish euthanized with sodium bicarbonate or Alka-Seltzer® should not be used for human consumption.

Protocol: Fish should be placed into a container with an appropriate volume of water that will provide free movement of fish to be euthanized. Water should then be saturated with carbon dioxide from either a compressed gas cylinder (via the use of an air stone with a moderate flow rate for ~5-10 minutes) or by dissolving enough sodium bicarbonate or Alka-Seltzer® into the water (via the dosages previously provided). Fish should be removed only after ten minutes have passed since their last observed opercular movements (respiration) have occurred.

There is little to no suffering with freezing or ice. Comparing freezing a dog to a fish is totally different. As a cold blooded animal they will slip into unconciousness very quickly and all of the movement from the creature is involuntary. Their breathing slows quickly as the need for oxygen is halted by their system slowing down until it just stops. Besides they would be numb and not feel anything anyway. Either that or chop its head off like a chicken. Instintaneous.

Freezing is definetly not humane. A cold blooded animal still feels pain if their body temp is lowered. Blunt force trama or decap is the fastest in my opinion. Net and smack. 5 seconds and its over.

Use clove oil.

this would be the most humane way .... a freezer works well to
..i think i my self would wait and let him go natural

sorry but justin is right

Just eat HIM!

Or u can just get a knife ( if his a good size) And just Stab him between the eyes on top of the head. Thus Striking his brain and killing him right then and there. But Remember Nervs are still working so if he Twhiches Its cool. Then just Zip him in a bag and toss him away. I do this all the time when fishing and i dont mind. I have even Took a fish out of the water ones and took at bite right out of him ( Man vs Wild Style ) Good luck

depnding on the fish and the condition.. yes some of those sound relitively human, however I personaly again dpedning on th fish and condiditons, would chop the head off and have it for dinner...after a fry pan, invite some friends over...cuerlity or not...at least u enjoy your fish to the last...
