Hi,

auranti and barca are really not same looking channa.
But they are often false named in the web an in literature.
A few years ago aurantis were often called barca, but then they were described by Musikasinthorn, and the real barca were rediscoverd.

KingEl show morepics of your loot, doesnt look like maculata to me on these ppics.

Cheers

It the agle of the camera that made them not look like c. maculata and they are also stress out that's why the patterns is not yet showing. They look very similar to c. argus when they were still at the market.

They look like this when they were at the market.

hey king , the two in the first pic you posted look straita to me ,(wrong head shape for maculata ) although they have been hit on the head lol , would love two see more pics

cheers col

It's 100% c. maculata it's just the camera angle is doing something on the headshape plus they were hit on the head. C. striata doesn't have spots similar to c. argus and I also I have c. straitA and they look very different.

Yep, I had to put it over here, way too MFK story to not be shared :D ...well done Earl.

By the way, there's a Channa Barca available here in Montreal ;)

Are you sure it's a 100% c. barca? They are the rarest snakehead in the hobby. They could be just c. aurantimaculata as they both look closely alike. PM me some pics and the price I might be interested.

Not 100% sure, because I haven't seen it myself. The price tag (almost 4000) is definitely C. Barca like.

haha amazing. Just one more thing... MORE PICTURES!
Also I saw on your other thread that you are living in BC, what is the status of snakeheads there?
Here in Ontario you cannot have ANY part of a snakehead dead or alive.
Also any sort of goby is also banned...

You can own snakehead in Ontario

BUT

you cannot buy or sell them...

not all goby... the only banned goby is the rounded goby (which you can find A LOT in Pickering (Near the Power Plant))

there this (i forgot the name) pearl goby or somesort.. in Big Als for $10.99 each

and

(salt water fish) Mandarin goby for like $35 each

EDIT ( tropheus ) ----- PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING FROM ONTARIO M.O.E. , I THINK THEY WILL DISAGRE WITH YOU !!!!

please ensure your info is correct before telling people if something is legal or illegal

So I finally got aresponse from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and this is whatthey sent me regarding possession of snakeheads in Ontario:

"Hello,

Thank you for your enquiry.

It is illegal to possess live invasive fish including: round goby, tubenose goby, grass carp, bighead carp, black carp, silver carp, rudd, ruffe and any species of snakehead. If any of these species

are caught they should be destroyed and not released back into any waters.

Under the Canadian Fisheries Act;

"fish" includes

(a) parts of fish,

(b) shellfish, crustaceans, marine animals and any parts of shellfish, crustaceans or marine animals, and

(c) the eggs, sperm, spawn, larvae, spat and juvenile stages of fish, shellfish, crustaceans and marine animals;

As you can see possession of snakehead or any part of them is illegal in Ontario.

For more information in regards to invasive species or to report a sighting, call the Invading

Species Hotline 1-800-563-7711 or visit www.invadingspecies.com.

Regards,

Honestly, REGARDING the ban in Ontario of buy AND sell

I seen albino striata, cobra, ocellated, obscura, red line, rainbow, gachua snakehead sales across the GTA...

and

I like your idea Earl...

BUT

they dont sell snakehead here in Chinese supermarket...

only bowfin, rainbow trout, barramuda, stone fish, talipia, cod, eel...

and

you can just ask for the fish to be alive and they will just give it to you (no head smashing) ^^
