Betta spawn?

My hmpk male and A delta tail(probably) female are doing the embrace but the female keeps on moving out of the embrace. Why is this?

Leave them be, There may be some fin nipping. Unless they start tearing scales or going for the gills.
This is what they call foreplay.

They're done. It took them a couple of hours. Female is back in the sorority and the male is just guarding the nest.

Great! We usually leave the male in until they are free swimming.

The male is in there guarding the eggs. Do I need to put a sponge filter when the fry are free swimming?

No, they breath air just as we do. And think to yourself, do you have a filter in there now????

I usually out a fine airstone in on low. It keeps any film broken up on the surface.
No filter. Water changes, 20-50% daily. Betta fry put out a lot of growth inhibitor hormones.
Water changes are the only way the get rid of it.

Once you remove the male, I put in a large Apple snail, He's the live in janitor.

The fry are just falling and swimming back up the top. Unfortunately i dont have an extra air pump. Will a mystery snail work as a janitor? What do i feed them?

My mystery snail prefers shrimp pellets. Doesn't do so well cleaning up the rest. I'd look for another type.
