That would make sense...but in this company they are all about new initiatives and trying all sorts of abstract methods. The latest emphasis is not on sales directly, but pleasing customers so that they will return and tell other people. They have this thing where customers take surveys on the phone, and the only responses they care about is the likelihood to return and recommend.

Therefore, i have a manager that will send anyone who even slightly complains out the door with a $20 gift card.

Makes me tempted to go there and complain..Except you are a few hours away and that's just not right. $20 gift card sounds awesome.

Since when is eating turtle illegal?

It should be considered animal torture and cruelty. When you get them from a pet store vs food market it's different. They kill and prepare the turtle for you at the food market. You can't buy a food animal alive. Also, if the person got sick or died from eating that turtle, will the pet store have a liability issue had they known it was bought to be eaten?

All things aside I know at PetSmart we (as much as people on here bash them) still refuse the right to refuse the sale for whatever reason. I undestand this is a tought place to be in but i would have told him this college lecture ends with you going home without a turtle.

First off, I don't think he ate the turtle, he's just a jackass. However...

I don't think it's illegal to buy any animal with the intent to eat it, unless there is a contract signed stating the animal will not be eaten during the sale. People buy food animals alive all the time, that's what livestock auctions are. You can also buy a lobster at the supermarket and take it home alive and so on... The pet store would not be responsible for the person getting sick from an improperly prepared turtle.

I've never bought a fish or turtle from a pet store and eaten it. I generally go out and kill wild ones for that purpose. However, I would refuse a sale to someone at a pet store that had the intent of eating the fish, turtle, dog, or whatever. Shoot, I've met immigrants from Peru in Texas that still eat guinea pigs. Should this be illegal, too?

Sorry I derailed the thread, but throwing around words like "animal torture" and "cruelty" just because the meat has a face, and yes, was alive once, ticks me off...

People are such A-holes. I cant even imagine speaking to someone like that in that kind of situation. God bless you because if I were there I would now be here saying man I shouldnt have hit that guy.

Back when I worked at petco a couple of years ago, I would'nt have sold them the turtle, we did stuff like that every once in a while when the customer was blatantly ignorant.
