The politically correct police are going wayyyyy too far now. I found out today that future printed copies of the immensely popular children's books by Roald Dahl are to be rewritten! Classics such as "Charlie and the chocolate factory", "Fantastic Mr Fox", "Mathilda" and "The BFG" are among several that will receive the "makeover".

All the "outdated" and "inappropriate" language is to be removed and other words/phrases are to replace them.

The world is going mad. What next? The full works of Shakespeare or The bible!! Absurd.

This is absurd...and infuriating...and frightening...:(

The quote below is from the end of that news story, and I think it perfectly captures my reaction to this atrocity:

“If we start down the path of trying to correct for perceived slights instead of allowing readers to receive and react to books as written, we risk distorting the work of great authors and clouding the essential lens that literature offers on society."

We are falling further down the well of Political Correctness, and cannot say anything negative about this devolution of human intelligence for fear of offending the delicate flowers who pushed us over the edge in the first place.

You are just seeing this now!?! Wow. Wait till you find out what may be taught in it's place!! Disgusting.... Smells like the mod police will be here soon. In before the :lock:

Sickeningly so. It's political correctness at it's most dangerous. We'll soon be in a world where you literally can't watch, read, say or do anything for fear of "upsetting" some part of society. It's mental.....oops, I'm in trouble now!

You sure are! Come to think of it, perhaps I should go back and remove the smiley-face I added to your post...don't want to be guilty by association...:)

I think you should. That icon is bald, it may be upsetting for people with alopecia. It's smiling too, could upset people with depression. But more worryingly, it is yellow, make what you want out of that one....i'm censoring myself!!

I heard about this and like you guys thought it was stupid and extreme.
Do the people censoring the books realise what has made them popular with kids for generatiions? As someone who likes reading i have tried to get my 7 year old into the habit and Roald Dahls books are a very easy thing to use when i want her to settle down in the evening and read before bed.
There are also the movie adaptations too which are usually pretty good.
This is the sort of nonsense that makes a fairly tolerant person like myself outraged and turn on the woke or politically correct. Its getting to the point where there is going to be a huge backlash against this sort of thing soon and the groups who are meant to be "protected"by this sort of censorship will find they have no sympathy whatsoever and it most likely wont even be their fault, it would have been caused by some idiot in a university or council office who thinks they are trying to help.
It reminds me of an incident here a few years back where a kindergarten tried to ban xmas as it apparently offended the muslim kids parents. After some investigation it turned out the muslims werent offended at all and hadnt made any complaint but some HR guidance teacher had tried to implement the ban herself to "avoid potential harm ". All it really did is cause huge harm to the group she was trying to protect even though it was nothing to do with them!

I am just using the thumbs up icon as I agree with everything………. Although now find myself checking to see what else the thumbs up icon means and who I may be upsetting!
I find the whole thing crazy!

sorry need to adjust that for 2024
Instead of crazy read lunacy!

sorry need to adjust that for 2025
Instead of lunacy read slightly strange!

sorry need to adjust that for 2026
Instead of slightly strange read ordinary!

Imagine that, offensive wording in long loved and popular children's books.

Hey! I'm offended by your use of the term "bald"; the PC term is "follically challenged" and I will thank you to be more cognizant in future of the potentially hurtful terminology you toss around so freely. :swear:

Don't forget, I am Canadian; I am surrounded by platoons of SJW's who are champing at the bit to make the world a better place in which to live. Don't force me to sic 'em on you! :)
