achara/marble pim, I use the references intermediately. you have the same catfish as I'm talking about.....and, btw, I would LOVE to have an achara/rtc hybrid...already have an achara/tsn...but...

Ooppps. that's embarassing ... not knowing the name of the kitty i have too (i know it as marble pim and longibardis or something like that). ALthough i did recon that the cat in the avatar looked kinda familiar =P

In that case, if there is no outward damage on him then he is fine. Plus he is eating (only not alot). My pim goes on fasting quite a fair bit of times (while still being active and stuff).

I recon he should be fine.

PS: as for the bad experience with heaters (i assume burns), you can avoid that my putting the heater in the sump or putting it in a cage

lol, well, haahahaha...as for the heaters, I tried to avoid the heater burns in the sump. except they don't know when to shut off, even when brand new, even away from other fish who can break them...so, no heaters....

this catfish, my favorite fish who happens to be a nonpiciky eating catfish, is refusing anything. I've never seen him act this way in the past two years. That's why i'm so concerned. He's longer than the freaking tank is wide, which is 24" so when he begs for food, it makes this thimping noise. Im used to him thuimping off of the return nozzles and the corner overflow containers. This is a "I AM HUNGRY" thump and I can't figure it out. Even for him to turn down easy, live prey....I've never seen that one happen with anyojne...I'm at a loss...

and, speaking of which, I'm upstairs and could hear him thumping, swimming, beggin for food. Guess I shall go down and put some nightcrawlers in

I have alot of mature large cats, they go on hunger strike for long periods of time, its like they are in some sort of protest and go in massive huffs with you  he will come around soon enough and if he doesnt then you might want to start looking into internal parasite treatments as this could be the cause also ;) hope you get him sorted soon.

Some of the fish you guys mentioned i aint even heard of, any chance of pics of the hybrids so i can maybe try get some myself ;)

ok, well as for pics, he's the avatar in my profile....he hasn't tried rubbing anything or whatnot. But, does 'beg' for food, then when I drop food in, he's not interested. i even put in one of the kids goldfish (they haven't commented yet) in there hoping he'd eat him. I can't believe I'm bummed out I did this almost a week ago, and the freaking goldfish lives....

the water temp is room temp. I don't do heaters as I've had bad experiences with them. Too many actually. Room temp is kept 72 to 74 year round.

the whiskers receeding back was with my pictus catfish, who are doing much better now after many, and I mean many late night water changes. They all eat tho...just not my kitty fish.

What worries me is how when he does try to eat, alot of times he spits it out after 'gumming' it. That's what makes me think he hurt himself internally eating the shrimp, or maybe a snail shell as he tended to munch on the big snails in the past. He also would eat cucumber that was stuck on a spoon for my algae eater. So many factors involved, but it's been too long. I know from my past experience a fish can live for a month without eating. He's eating, just a little bit.

Also, the main thing I noticed, I also called him my vacuum....he'd just swoop over the bottom, vacuuming up anything and everything. Doesn't do that anymore. Food can land right on him, and no reaction.

He's still here, just really worried. I have other issues going on with another tank, but that's a whole other story. Kitty fish doesn't show any of those signs.

So frustrating. ppl have mentioned pics or vids. of him begging for food? not interested? or spitting it out? If I lose him, due to something I have no idea over, I may lose all interest, at least for awhile, and I take care of 3 other tanks as well....he is my favorite

I know what you feel. When I had to give up my marbled pim and RTC (both around 22") I almost stopped going into the fish room altogether. Even now, its just not the same without big cats.... try giving hm smaller bits of food than usual. if he takes these then may be there is an internal injury.

well, spent last couple days thoroughly cleaning out the tank, massive water changes, cleaned out corner overflow. Many, many more issues going on...kitty fish is eating 1 nightcrawler about every other night, trying to go for every night like he used to.

I have been doing so much researching....have a mosquito infestation going on through out the tank, haven't seen any alive ones, but have seen them from eggs or whatever to lil' larvae. Guess the uv lights getting them...

Noticed on the one tube going into the sump has almost like a pinkish tan "stuff" on it. I hope it's not the bacteria I"m thinking of...

and, have/had a mold/fungus problem from leftover cucumber that, well, I had to have hubby remove....

yet, my ph doesn't go up. something else for me to work on, trying to not medicate...

had to remove the goldfish a little bit ago...good news is that kitty fish finally sparked interest in eating him, bad news couldn't, um, chump on him to keep him down/in. So, I now have the torn up, scales removed, bloody back finned goldfish back in his original home...but, kitty tried. Could've easily eaten him before as he ate bigger fish than that in the past.

Just chill - as long as there is no outward deterioration on your kitty he'll be fine. Keep your eyes on his eyes, whiskers and general skin appearance. the face that he still eats (albeit little) is a good sign ... errrr puking up food is puzzling (seeing that he was fasting for long time ... errr too much fat in the gold fish?)

good luck

to many water changes is not so good imo especially if you are not using heaters and such - just a thought

explain please... the water being replaced is same temp as tank water, which now that the warmer weather set in is 75* (room temp a/c on 74*). Have been doing about 30 gallons of water changes every other day for last week or two. Recently this past week was doing 30-40 gallons every day as to clear up fungus, overflow gook, and squitos

my achara's "children" the pictus cats are looking better.

I also found myself wandering if my kitty fish somehow injured himself internally with the handle of a spoon that I used to weigh down cucumber...kitty fish even ate cucumber. BUT, wouldn't it have healed up by now?
