Big Collection Trip

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To run the inverter I use a portable battery jumpstart setup that has a 12v plug when collecting and the truck's cig lighter when driving. Before the portable setup I used a spare boat battery that I charged ahead of time. A deep cycle battery would work best. Either way there's a lot of juice in a car battery and a single quality air pump won't use very much. Easy enough to calculate how many amp hours your pump will use. Way cheaper than buying tons of d cells and using loud crappy 12v bait pumps that die when you really need them. Styrofoam coolers that stack when not in use are good for temporary holding tanks. A short piece of heavy pvc pipe for each holding tank will keep the air tubing from floating. I don't use airstones, less backpressure on the pump.

I will be using coolers - guess we will have to test the car battery to see if it can run the airpumps overnight without dying.

Thanks bean - I will be messenging you as we approach the date to get into some areas for gar, pbass, and tilapia - possibly bluefins as well. Thanks so much!

Photos or the trip didn't happen! ha just teasing but still some photo's of fish you have collected would be amazing.

Owain - saw you on the south FL fishing thread. Please feel free to help bump this and bring in some of the "heavy hitters" so that I can get the best advice from the most people as possible.

I will definitely be taking lots of pictures throughout my travels this winter.

Black banded sunfish (Enneacanthus chaetodon) and least killifish (Heterandria formosa) are two of my favorite natives. I can tell you where for NC but thats about it.

Unfortunately I will not have time to stop in NC - its looking like SC is going to even get cut short.

Most of our focus will be on FL, and a trip to savanah to catch some gars.

Gotcha. I think both species are down that way. If you go out drinking in Savannah may I suggest Wet Willy's bar. Its pretty cool and I vaguely remember it down town.
