Fleshy, gars are abundant in the c4 canal EVERYWHERE. Specifically pull into the trail glades range on the Tamiami trail and on both sides of the bridge you will see hundreds. In this same spot are also frequently more exotics than you will see at a LFS. The exotics arent as abundant there because the water is shallow and filled with lillies but they are there in good numbers. A little bit east of there about 5 miles closer to Tamiami the canal deepens and widens and fish are easier to find. Concentrate on the lateral canals that branch off of the c4 as the flow is less and vegetation more abundant. Have seen a huge deal of bowfin in here too but there are so many gar it will take a great deal of luck to catch one before the gar take it. I have a secret spot that I would share with you that I caught many peacocks, gar, oscars, jags and mayans just down the road from the trail glades range. Bowfin and gators are pretty abundant here too as well as snook. Many other locations are shared in our South Florida thread. The walking cats that you asked about I saw in residential lakes on the south side of SW 88th street near SW142nd Ave. The water is so clear that you will see them laying on the bottom. I also saw pacu in here as well, HUGE. I am sure there are other exotics in here as well. I thought I spotted some bichir in there. The walking cats sprint to the top for air and is pretty neat. Also check out the canal directly accross the street from Burger King at sw 137th ave and sw 112th st (you can park at burger king and walk over). Its just a couple miles from the walking cats. Fishing isnt always the best there because the water is so clear and heavily pressured, but the concentration of exotics is more dense than anywhere that I have seen. Look on both sides of the drain pipes seperated by the road, though the south side seems busier. If you are looking for any other information, I would be happy to share additional spots via PM so it can remain between us.
