Big fish are BACK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
TBH I avoid pet stores for the most part so I honestly don't know what they are selling anymore. The one that I do go to occasionally is a hobbyist himself and you will never see these fish for sale in his shop, ever. I pretty much agree with the article written though. You see these tanks on this forum and splattered all over youtube for sure. It clearly influences people, especially young people. Heck I was one of them, I remember having a RTC in a 125 gallon after seeing 'cool' videos of them online when I was much younger. Most of these huge fish should be banned from importation for the aquarium trade as only a VERY VERY small minority actually have the ability to properly home them. Just my .02.

Fish keeping milieu has changed over the last 10+ years. That change is reflected on MFK. MFK was founded on big fish, big JDM tanks. We all oohed and aahed over them. Now if any one dares to post a pic of a JDM tank, they are crucified and criticized unmercifully on MFK. I personally am not a fan of JDM style tanks, but can appreciate the fact that others like that style. The superior know-it-alls vastly out number the very small percentage of JDM big tank owners, so they rule MFK. Why these small tank, small fish owners are even on MFK is beyond me. They have MONSTER passion which is why they are on MFK and not on AC. (Ha ha they have more passion for fish keeping that those on AC!) I have never seen a JDM tank owner criticize any other persons tank. It is always the superior little tank owners doing all the criticizing. Big JDM tanks are out there, just more underground than before. Why should they post on MFK when they are only going to get slammed? If they should dare to post a pic, they will be bashed. The world needs a forum for big tanks and big fish. Obviously, MFK is not that forum any more :( :(

There's still alot of people on this forum with big tanks and big fish, which I don't think anyone has a problem with, but people quite rightly do voice there opinions on people with big fish and small tanks. The hobby evolves as our understanding of fish keeping gets better mfk is just a reflection of this.
With the amount of animal rights group closing in on the hobby all these badly stocked youtube clips only gives them ammunition and could potentially risk the hobby for all of us.

300 gallon tanks are still bigger than most tanks on this forum. I would be out too, as my 300 is the only thing set up...Still working on the big upgrade tank. Guess I'm still stewing over an "I think it's ugly" comment made by someone earlier this week about pics of a 4000 gallon tank with incredible, fabulous fish.

Meh. Everything is personal opinion. I'm assuming you're talking about Vince's tank. Those fish are spectacular! The tank itself IMHO is not, it's just a bare tank with fish. Now don't take that the wrong way, I Love his tanks, they are amazing. But if you put a naturally landscaped tank with the same fish in it right next to it which do you think would draw the most attention? For me personally I think I enjoy looking at well landscaped tanks more than the fish themselves. Kind of like going into the woods, you go to enjoy the forest, not just the animals they contain ;) again all just personal opinion, just like the next guy may think bare tanks look far superior.

Trolls gonna troll. Pay no attention

I agree with you that well landscaped tanks are beautiful. For my fish bare undecorated tanks are a must for their health and safety. I even gave away a custom made 15' x 4' rocky background that I was going to put on the floor because the risk of inury to our fish was too great. When my tank is finally set up, I will not be posting pics of it on this forum. I do not need "your tank is ugly" "I don't like your background, it's unnatural looking" comments.. especially not after all the time, effort money, blood, sweat, tears I've thrown into this project.
