I may get flamed for this one. I just don't get the attitude of the " fish rights" crowd. I want to keep my fish healthy and as happy as a fish can be, but draw the line at comparing fishkeeping to keeping other pets like dogs or cats. We don't have shows where people hunt dogs and gaff them into the boat. We don't use them as bait to catch other animals. If our cat has a litter of kittens, we don't feed them to our other pets. We don't buy half a dozen cats and rehome all but the best ones. We don't grow either out for a food source. We don't grind them up to make food for other dogs and cats. How many vets accept fish as patients. I would love to see every fish bought as a pet kept humanely and in adequate living conditions, but I do not lose any more sleep over what others keep in their tanks than I do over having a fish dinner. The statement in the article "fish can't speak for themselves" is true, so we can't ask them if they would have rather been preyed upon, caught for food, died in a dwindling pool during the dry season, or have grown too old and large to look comfortable in a fish tank. As long as there is no threat to the survival of a species from the hobby I am not in favor of some kind of morality based regulation. Those people can keep what they want, how they want to, and I will do the same.
