big midas vs dovii pair with eggs video, epic!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah Justarn, they're your fish, you enjoy them however you like buddy. Expensive risk you're taking there though! Not for the faint of heart!

That personally would drive me INSANE. Any kind of aggression in my tanks makes my blood boil, I can't tell you how many times I cussed out this beautiful Atabapo Pike I had before finally taking him to the LFS.

I still remember him casually swimming along, then biting a CHUNK out of an expensive tankmate, spitting it out, then swimming off. I yelled "HEY, THAT's 200 DOLLARS YOU JUST BIT RETARD."

That dovii bit his kok...

LMAO!!!

hey all, thanks for all the replys and all opinions are valued and im glad some people know i am a good fish keeper... i never intended them to fight although i obviously knew they would and will increase as the dovii put on size. i think the reason most of us few who keep aggressive communitys do it to enjoy the hierachy of the tank and the fact that there will be scuffles can get the blood rushing... neither of these fish have so much as a badly ripped fin atm! this is the second time ive had both pairs spawn since xmas... either i'll get another tank or sell the dovii, i could sell this dovii pair in a heart beat to many people i know. i know the midas is staying with me forever now, he is fast become as important to me as my dogs!-) the flowerhorn will be moving to our bedroom soon and i may sell the festae as they dont do much for me other than looking nice.... pike is open to offers aswell, anyone?

I am one for being vigilant with our own fish, regardless of what people think. That being said, you don't see a Midas like this everyday. Why risk it?

I think it's a great video. Some fish are on this planet to swim in circles and look pretty (angels come to mind), and some are here to do battle! If not in your tank, they'd kill each other in a lake. Let nature sort it out. Or get a divider lol. It's not like you threw the fish in there to fight, dovii were dumb enough to spawn on the bare bottom with a Midas swimming around that outweighs both of them put together. They should just consider themselves lucky you don't have any big catfish in that tank.

"Kill each other in a lake" This statement is completely flawed. Firstly, in the wild fish can simply swim away if they are losing or have lost a battle. In a tank like shown here though, it is a completely different case. With nowhere to retreat the less dominant fish is either killed or severely injured.

"It's not like you threw the fish in there to fight" Please explain how placing fish in a tank to fight is any different than knowingly allowing fish in a tank to fight?

"dovii were dumb enough to spawn on the bare bottom with a Midas swimming around" Fish are fish and it is in their nature to carry on their line so a bonded pair will do what ever it takes to reproduce. Calling these dovii dumb for this is just ridiculous! The fish never asked to be placed in this environment. The owner put them in this predicament and as such, all outcomes fall directly on his shoulders. In the end, the outcome here is one that can be prevented by the owner.

As to others calling some people in this thread naysayers? From what I can see, the naysayers are the only people that have actually posted anything that is both constructive and in the best interests of justarn's fish.

I swear some people are uber sensitive on this site. It's a 300 gallon tank and they had been in there for a while. And if I remember correctly he said both pair had spawned in the tank before with no problems. Justarn isn't Michael Vick. I'm sure he will move fish out or divide them if it gets any worse. It's obvius he cares about these fish and won't let them get seriously injured. So for now take the video for what it is. An entertaining small battle between fish who are nasty by nature. Hell my flowerhorns do worse to eachother and they are paired up.

They're gonna fight. Catching it on tape isn't a crime lol. Not like it happens everyday. Everyone has experienced this before and done something about it. I'm sure he's not gonna let any of his fish die and doesn't need criticism. He's fully capable of removing his fish and as he stated he will

This is pretty much how I took this video. Not as the OP wanting to show his fish fighting because that's what he wants but rather a fight broke out in a tank that had nothing but success in before and he got it on camera to share to the MFK community.

Awesome fight! The dovii pair looks great, but def seperate them if you haven't already. The colors on your Midas pair are just too unique to risk losing one before you grow up some fry & distribute them around in my direction:D
