Big ole Texas needs your help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh god so someone please tell me should I quarantine him or just treat my 200 gallon tank. I literally thought he got hurt from maybe fighting with a female he likes but clearly it isn't.
you are going to have to QT him/treat the entire tank. If it is even a bacterial infection. Those new pics have me thinking otherwise seeing as his lips look almost normal in the new pics?

Those pics are 20 minutes apart.

This is a good picture how he looks the side pic is hard to see what's going on.

Go with what I suggested for treatment. Meds are necessary here if this is what we think it is. You have an uphill battle, but at least try to save the rest of your stock

You have any link or know where I can get the medications? Ill be stuck at work but I can tell my wife to grab it. I'm pretty sure the aminoglycoside I need a script for from a vet.

considered kanamycin?
Where can I get some of this?

I will treat him in the hospital tank with salt and no heater and meds. But the medication part I would need to know which one. I have melafix and pimafix but those aren't ideal right? Especially pumafix is fungal.

I'm sorry I don't want to lose this fish or any other fish due to this crazy infection.
The good thing is hes swimming fine and swims fast to chase the smaller fish away from him like usual.

If someone can help me on meds that would be great. I just need to know whats it called if there is a link of it or anything so I can tell my wife to go and get some.

methylene blue will be the same as the kanaplex, either a good aquarium store or online.

Thanks so much I highly appreciate your advice. I obviously will treat him with the meds but should I treat the large community tank as well at the same time?

yes. I'm going to say if he isn't eating and this is in fact columnaris, he may be to far gone. That's not to say you shouldn't treat him but the community tank should be your main focus now seeing as they've all been exposed.

oh and you are quite welcome. I know this battle all too well. one of my redfin pickerel had what I will swear until I die was columnaris. Nothing helped but the kana/furan combo with a meth blue dip afterwards but he was to far gone by the time I got it figured out what was going on or had enough knowledge of what I was combating.
