i'm hearing alot of you people saying, this fish will win, what exactly does that mean?, which fish would kill the other?, becuase i don't really think that's any kind of winning for a fish keeper. and yes jags have large mouths

I want you to know one and all that i do not condone or contribute to any real fighting of any fish that is not compatable with one another.. and i just wanted to be able to put these two together in a large tank if it were at all possible that they would get along.. and this is all a joke about them..nothing more and nothing less then a joke about "duking" it out in the ring..all of us fish keepers know that an aquarium is not a lake or a river or a ocean ... if fish are not compatable they should not be together in an aquarium since they cannot get away from each other.. no matter how big the aquarium it is still a small space.. so anyway when you hear who would win ..it just means who has more attitude or who has more aggression ..and it is just simply a few pictures of two awesome guys facing each other in a safe...environment.

well in that case, imo the jag might "win"

Hey Liz! I'm not much of a New World guy, but those fish look beautiful!!! I'm pretty sure the Jag would reign superior from what I hear.

Thats cool how you are able to house both of those beautiful aggro monsters together with that divider. Great job and thanks for the wonderful pics!
Thank you .. very much.. see that is all i really wanted to do.. the rest has just been in fun.. and glad you understand a little humor, Liz;)

no i dont have him anymore, i re-homed him after he killed the plec and my pim cat in 1 night, he has lived with them no probs 4 about a month or 3 and then BAM

hear is the jag he killed

this was the plec

Now that is scary.. when a fish seems compatable with the other and you finally trust them together and then BAM it happens.. I am leaning more to takeing the safe route..i just cannot live in that suspense mode.. i hate those kinds of surprises..

OH you are too funny... :D :D :D

IMHO, it all comes down to the individual fish. My experience has been Red Devils have much stronger jaw structures than jags, and are much more manoverable than jags. I'd have to say the RD would be the dominate of the 2.

And depending on the size of your tank, they most likely would work out their pecking order and do ok together I think(depending on your individual fishes temperment of course).

I've had numerouse RDs/midas with my big Jag and for them most part he leaves them alone(even in my old 75g tank), as their coloration doesn't set him off like other fish with similar coloration/shape. If I were to put other fish in that resemble my Jag's coloration/shape more closely, he would go nuts.

Beautiful fish btw. :headbang2

Thank you very much.. it is nice to hear from someone who actually kept them together and has had experience and knowledge with them..very interesting about the color not setting him off etc.. and also interesting that the rd would be probably the more powerful of the two.. i think i will leave them side by side for awhile and see how they are after a week or so.. you can pretty much tell if they start to accept anothers presence.. and whether they have become accepted.. probably the ideal is to start when they are both babies..

The devil will destroy a jag  and i have kept them in a 125 as juvi's up to about 5-6".Don't take down the divider for any reason if want to keep your fish when i first started fish keeping in my teens i did alot of aggresion experiments like this without the divider:WHOA: .I had a 14" devil in a 100 my buddy wanted to get rid of a 6' green texas so we put the texas in and it rammed the big devil and popped his swim bladder the rd died a few hours later. The moral of the story is these fish are capable of 1 hit fataliaties:headbang2 so be safe don't let them near each other or big suprise can happen. Also big cichlid battles bust up equipment and tanks so evan if they get along today tonight might be the big suprise.lol:)
