So the question still stands, how big of a fish can are you willing to put in your tank ?
P45 - 12 inches in a 200G?? :WHOA: Cmon...
I like my fish to have space, and *conceited rant on my superior fishkeeping standards...*

Damn! I missed the pic of this crazy monster tank, can anyone pm me with a link to it? I promise I wont start flaming anyone! Just curiuos to see it!

I currently have a 4"x2"x2" (450l tank/~100gallons I think?) I'm looking for a 6"x2"x2" at the moment to house my Murray Cod. This will probably be the only fish in this tank until he gets to about 20" then I will look at alternative accomodation for him (maybe a plywood monster tank?), I would put a couple of other fish in with him, (a Jardini would be nice as the MC tends to hang around on the bottom) but I think he'd eat them :(

I find it more enjoyable to watch a fish with plenty of room, it looks more natural when they can move around freely in a tank instead of just doing small laps. :D

And HarleyK, no need to upgrade anything for the arapaima but thanks for your "genuine" concern.

Howdy,

you're welcome :D

:arapaimag 200 cm, 125 kg. Max: 450 cm, 200 kg But I am sure you know that.

Common 900 gal acrylic tank: 120'' (300 cm) x 36'' (90 cm) x 58'' (120 cm). Perfectly fine for a one or two footer, you're absolutely right.

Check out Johnptc's article in the "article" section here. You might want to look into that for your upgrade. But then, what do I know, I have never kept an arapaima. And for sure I never will.

Peace out,
HarleyK

I do believe Ivan has a 20,000 gallon pond in the works. So, don't worry about the fish. Isn't this thread suppose to be about your own tanks? What is it that you keep HarleyK?

My guess is that he has the nice looking gourami in the avatar, a convict cuchlid and a platy all in a 450 gallon tank. That's why he can talk donw to us the real monster ish keepers.

Whenever I feel like I need you to tell me what do I need for my fishes I will PM you or email you HarleyK, until then you can save your "advice" to me.

Hi Chad,

I am currently starting up a 220 gal tank. I hooked up the filter last week Thursday and introduced a few sword tails and gouramis last night. They are my starter fish to establish the tank as an ecosystem. So if you ask what I keep right now, that's it. They look lost in the big tank ;) In the next weeks, I plan on directing the tank to African species. I was thinking of a dozen Pantodon buchholzi, 5-7 Synodontis nigriventis and eventually a few Gnathonemus (which one depends on availability).

Last year I had to take down my 80 gal tank (theme Southeast Asia) and sell it since I moved. I bridged the months with setting up a couple of smaller tanks (which is where the swordtails and gouramis came from), but finally the time came to go big :grinyes:

I think Pantodon are pretty cool, I always loved them, and we have lots of crickets in our backyard in the Summer. Furthermore, they will love living in a tank with plenty of surface area. As other posts of mine indicated, I rather have a tank too big for the fish than the other way around.
