Never had one over 15" but I've seen some that were easily over 18" at a public aquaruim. Course there is no way to verify the size but I know what I saw. :)

The Steinhart Aquarium(San Francisco), before it was remodeled, contained a dozen or so 15+ inch O's...........

My biggest oscar is 5'6", he is very fiesty, I have to argue with him alot to delivery our dumpsters on time.

at the risk of asking a stupid question whats venting?!

No stupid questions, only stupid answers lol. Venting is exactly what it sounds like. By examining the fishes vent area, you can most of the time tell by the vent shape if it is male or female. The "vent" area is basically the genitalia of the fish.

Well, it is my own thread, so here's my guy now. He's past the 12" but not 13" yet. At a year and four months in my possession, having bought him at 4", that seems about right. He slowed down a lot at about 10" when in the 75g. I had to cut back on feeding a little and do extra water changes to keep the water healthy, and he was the only fish in there. People are on drugs who keep Oscars in 55g tanks. Once in the 125g, he grew at normal Oscar speed again right on up to 11.5 inches. Anyway, he's probably actually two years old by now from wild egg to adult.

Really crappy pics from my old iphone. The albino tiger oscar is 11 maybe 12 in. The red oscar is about 10 they are around 5 years old and about 2 1/2 inches thick.
