The Biggest one is a gator gar, the smaller one is a cuban gar.

Dude none of them are gator gars trust me, there all tropical gars and yes one is a cuban gar.

Off the gar topic... and back to the bichir in the fish...

Anyone (I hope yall don't jump on me for sayin this) think it's kind of ugly? Yes, I realize it's absolutely massive and deserves awe and respect solely based on it's size... but how about that coloration (or lack of)? I dno - I know it's a Cong, but the colors just remind me of a drab looking senegal. Do ALL lowerjaw species lose their coloration and stripes when they max out in size?

no i don't think they all of a sudden go all washed out when they reach full size. some of it is probably that the fish wasn't the prettiest when small, but also, that fish must be pretty damn old, and i'm sure they'll lose a little pattern when they get OLD.

Not me, I love it for the size and look, if I wanted pretty colours I'd keep discus or marines. ;)

On the topic of huge bichirs, I stumbled across this collection of pics today: http://imageevent.com/codomo/polypterusendlichericongicus
Amazing looking collection, I'm so jealous! Does anyone know who's they are??

i actually like the color/pattern (or lack of) of this congicus a lot. i've always wanted a yellowish congicus with very faint to nonexistent stripes.

just had to get in my two cents on the gars... (most likely) big tropicals...very big :)

that's an awesome congicus...wish i could get one that big! i haven't seen mine eat for over a year now!!!--
