bio balls vs scrubbies

Brian not trying to start an argument with u but after doing some more research on scrubbies and asked a friend who uses them I don't know where your getting your #'s from. To fill a 1 gallon bucket with scrubbies would be more like 15-20 max. Also who ever pays 6 bux for a gallon of them is getting ripped off as my friend buys them in packs of 10 for 1 dollar at the dollar store. Buy them in bulk would a lot cheaper. My friend filled up a fluval 404 to the max with 30+ scrubbies(3" diameter) and a fluval 404 has a volume capacity of 8.5L. 3 dollars for 2+ gallons of scrubbies is definitely cheaper then 7 bux a gallon of Bioballs. When u said the price wasn't much of a difference between the two got me thinking...hmm it doesn't make sense. Lol.

I was able to fill up both my fluval 405 and Perfect 302 with scrubbies for about $5. Another thing to keep in mind is that bio balls are much more efficient when they are only partially submerged or have an airstone placed underneath them. In a wet/dry setup they outperform scrubbies, but in a completely submerged situation such as in a canister the scrubbies are the more efficient option.

LoL! You play the role of the victum quite well, remember though it was your insulting post that started this. And yes calling people cheap or calling them broke is insulting, and anyone who buys scubbies does not have to fit into one of your two insults.

Like I said I didn't intend that as an insult. Apparently you measure your worth by the money you have. I'm sorry if you were insulted. You could take someone's apology and move on. I hope eventually you have something in life that you don't have to be so stuck on the amount of money you have and won't be so insulted by that comment. I learned a long time ago you can't blame your actions on someone else. If I insulted you that doesn't justify you to be the way you are. Your behavior is on you and all a reflection of your personality. Again, I'm sorry you felt insulted. It wasn't my intent.

Just ignore him, he has a habit of calling people names and yet gets offended himself quite easily. That's why there is an ignore feature on here that comes in handy quite well.

Inglorious, you are a liar and I don't know how you're allowed to be a member on here. I reported you again for the third time. I don't really like reporting people, but it was communicated to me that's the proper way to do things here. I hope you guys aren't the same people in real life and are only this way, because you're hiding behind your computers. I feel sorry for people who know you if you act that way in general. Inglorious you are the worst person I've ever had the displeasure to talk to on here. I really like getting good information on here. If I ever got banned it wouldn't be so bad though, because I wouldn't have to communicate with you anymore. I'm sorry I've ever talked to you and hope you get help.

Actually inglorious you win. I'm deleting my membership here. There are other fish sites without people like you on it. Have a good life. My wife has complimented me on how good a person I've been recently and I don't need people like you bringing me down. Good bye.

Used to buy scrubbie 6 pack or 4 packs at the dollar store for a buck, but haven't seen for awhile. A member here zennzo used to sell 25 for 6 bucks, but sells no longer. Recent online search shows $100.00-125.00 for a case of 72 six packs of 3" scrubbies($1.38-1.74 per 6 pack). So 10 for a buck would be an incredible deal.

One gallon is 231 cubic inches. A 3" scrubbie is 7 or 9 cubic inches depending on how you figure it. So 26 to 33 scrubbies per gallon. I guess alot would have to do with just throwing them in or organizing them to efficiently fit and not waste any space.

Ya that's what my friend is paying for a 10 pack now at the dollar store in Canada. Ya I guess if u place them properly I can see that many scrubbies fitting in a ice cream bucket. But it still gets me that scrubbies costs 6 bux a gallon opposed to 7 bux for Bioballs...for wet/dry filters I would much rather go for Bioballs if the price was that close.

As for all the crap that all of your scrubbies are catching. Well with bio balls it's flowing right through them, then where does it go?

It collects on the bottom of the sump and stays there till you vac it up. Is this a serious question? The main point is vacuuming the bottom of a sump is 100x easier than shooting out all the scrubbies in a sump. My original post states the benefits of bio balls over scrubbies. I still have not seen the benefits of scrubbies over bio balls posted if the appeal is NOT the price as all scrubby users claim. I have seen members swap out scrubbies in their 100 gallon sumps for the reasons I've stated. Surface area is already discredited due to the food and crap collection as well as the lack of trickle dispersion.

Please enlighten me if cost is not the determining factor to this choice in " biological medial "...... that functions more like mechanical.

Yup definitely much easier to siphon the gunk then taking out and cleaning each scrubby one by one...also the price that Brian stated for scrubbies got me skeptical too as I researched here and on other forums everyone who uses scrubbies all posted saying it's cheaper then Bioballs. If there isnt any benefits over bioballs from using scrubbies and it wasn't cheaper I can't see why ppl would use it in their wet/dry sumps.
