Hmmm...seems to me if you don't know about something, then your really shouldn't be giving advise regarding it:screwy:

Actually I do know about it and have used it in the past and wont again. So we disagree on it, but dont make accusations I dont know about it just because we disagree on its value.

Easier to give smart... comments than contribute to the discussion though.

The argument is silly as he asked for something cheap that he could find locally and the comment was made that things like scrubbies and bioballs are not effective and not to go the cheap route. My argument the whole time has been it depends on the situation and there are a lot of reasons to use things like bioballs that dont relate to being cheap.

mdb_talon, just because im curious, what type of filter system were you using that media in, what flow rate were you trying to achieve and and what were the dimentions?

its fairly difficult to get water through compacted sand though!

Haha, but that was my point. I also dont like how hard it is to get water through things like http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4136+4140+4327&pcatid=4327

Well considering you are equating the flow through properties of ehfisubstrat with that of compacted sand. This would lead anyone who has used this product to draw the conclusion that you have no idea what you are talking about regarding this product.

But then it could be the application in which you were using it. I myself cannot imagine a situation were water would not flow though this or any other comparable media.
