Bio-filtration Emergency!

google or search on here for more information on biowheels being basically useless. Not only are the biowheels not what they claim, but the entire filters design is pretty terrible.

I cant seem to find any supporting evidence of that.
It oxygenates the water well and has a decent amount of surface area. Sure id rather use aquaclears but I got a penguin 200 on 2 of my 20 gallons and they work great and ive never had a bio issue. Also the 200 and 350 have media baskets you can fill with bio media should you feel the need (Ive always just put additional mech media in there.
Have you used them and deemed them worthless ?
 
thanks nells for letting me know but its the filter i have and dont have money for a new one at the moment so its going to have to do, and other than the biowheels mine has the same design as any other HOBs and i have ceramic rings in it for additional bio too, but does anyone know where i can get an impellar for a decent price, everywhere iv seen will be like 20 once shipping is added, thats insane

Especially considering you can get a new filter for around $40. I've looked too,and can't find any cheaper.

Must be a aqua clear fan boy. They are usually so jealous of the bio wheels they have to jump at every chance they have to take a crack at the bio wheels.

sadly yes thats the first place i looked lol, the housing is only 8 but the actual impellar is like 14.95 or something like that

and yeah i know might as well buy a whole frikin new filter this really sucks, i do have an extra emperor 280 that i was going to sell because it was too loud (tank is right by my bed) but i guess now i will just have to deal with it or something, sucks i actually like that penguin filter but im not paying 20 for impellar (especially when i only paid 10 for the filter in the first place from a person on my local fish forum :)
