I have always thought that birchardis look pretty cool so when I saw them at my LFS I picked up 3. I brought them home put them in quorentine in a 29g. QUESTION: What can I mixed them with?
1)Can they go in my 125g mbuna/peacock tank?
2)Or start a new tank for them with new tank mates? If #2 what fish work with them?
BTW: I do not plan on breeding (them)

if you have a male and a female I do not believe you will have a choice of whether they will mate. They will and soon you will have a lot of them... They will control the tank if allowed to build in numbers. watch out... I have two and as of now they have not started to mate, but they have taken control of the back corner of my 120....

they are tangs by the way...

Two weeks and I already have babies! ----they haven't even left the quarantine tank! I was going to do a water change and there they were. I was maybe planning to move them to the big tank of cichlids in another week or two--of coarse, after hearing everyones input on MFK. Now ??????? I do not know.

Keep it a species only tank! Everyone I've spoken to says brichardi are just "one of those fish" that you want to keep without any neighbors.

I would mix them in with other fish! I bought 4 to get a pair and they beat the hell out of 2 and now they don't have any fins! And that was overnight! It has been 2 weeks in a 29 gallon and they have a ton of fry. I am thinking of setting up a 55 and putting them all in there and once they get around 1" taking them to the LPS and getting store credit! i think they are the convicts of the Africa when it comes to breeding and beating the crap out of any one in there way.

...if you say that they beat the crap out of any other fish in their way, would it be a good thing to mix them with other fish? Or are you saying put them with other more aggressive africans that will put them in their place?

I do not know how many are in there. I counted 3. I probably sucked many up in last weeks H2O change.:(
Two are pictured on top of the rock in the second pic. Tough to find-same color as rock.
