You have know idea what you are talking about do you? You can't suggest putting an arowana in a 4 foot long tank.

Black Aros them selfs grow to be 4 feet. So yeah that definitely wouldn't work.

that means a 5' foot tank would be out of the question as well. i still think that a black aro that is being grown out would be housed more comfortably in a 4x2 than a 5x1.5...

perhaps an aro is not an option then...

I say go for it. they dont grow quite as fast and plus, once it outgrows, they are always in demand and you could get 200 plus for it, and i have never heard of or seen a 4 foot black aro.

i concur. some people just get touchy about the subject. i've grown out aros before and when they out grew the tank, i'd sell them and buy another baby. its a vicious cycle.:grinno:

Not likely, especially in the home aquaria.

Best to try to keep the aro in a tank with a length 3x that of the arowana and a width/depth at least equal to the arowana. With SA aros the lenth is more improtant IMO since they are constantly swimming. I a 4x2' tank the aro would basically be swimming in a continous circle. In a 72x18" 125g the aro can swim some length at speed before having to turn.

Ideally if the OP could provide a 180g 6x2x2' tank it would probably be 3 years before having to upgrade.

Then again he could end up with a black like mine, she has only grown about 8" in 25 months and currently is only 19" long.

ok well it might not even happen kuz now i might end up with a 48"x18" footprint, and 39" tall

oh and could I put one of those huge rubbermaid containers outside?

You can use the 4' or 6' tank fine,....as a grow out. Just know your options down the line. Definitely not a tank for life. It's one thing to educate someone about the needs/requirements, but take it easy. No need to imply like the guy is already housing a full grown aro with those tanks.

see the thing is there is absolutely under no circumstances an upgrade, once it is too big, it will have to be sold. what im asking is, is it worth it to buy one for just until it outgrows the 125 and sell it?

of course it is worth it. aros are a joy to care for and you'd make some decent money once its sold. good luck getting the beast out though. haha :)
