i think you will be more successful with the arowanas if you introduce them at a young age so they dont fight because adding full grown aros are harder

I have not had any problem with my Arowanas fighting with Payara's in the past.

Although if I had a 1000 gallon plus aquarium I would not mind keep some three foot Black Arowanas with a small school of Armatus.

i am afraid the aros would be goner unless you dont mind aros as feeder fish:ROFL:

If I were you I'd make sure the black arowana is a fair bit larger than the payaras as black arowanas can get bullied easily when they are small. I have seen some that have lost eyes from over aggressive tankmates.
The ones you have are probably Hydrolycus scomberoides or Rhaphiodon vulpinus. Scomberoides only grow to a foot usually while Vulpinus can grow to about 18 inches. Sounds like a cool tank, looking forward to pics.

i have see baby "payara baracuda" any of you familiar with that? to be its look just like payara that grows to atleast 2 feet LOL..i am interested to that fish :(

Thanks they are Hydrolycus scomberoides could not find the scientific name last weekend. I had two that were twelve inches plus with a Silver Arowana before we moved off the ranch. I want to start up another school again. This new batch is small. I'm going to use a grow out tank until they are 7-8 inches plus.

Sounds interesting and all but this would further be more appealing with pics for everyone to see. Other than that can't wait to see some pics up.

ah i c, its not payara i meant then and yes it does look the same to untrain eyes..its the saber tooth tetra i like i mentioned on my previous post, some might call it vampire tetra or saber tusk barracuda.
that fish is skittish fish i ever seen and also they told me you lucky if you can get up to 12 inches for whatever reason they come up with..
cool fish to mix with aros and i would love to see it in the aro tank. i wish you have the pic of it in the aro tank :)

I'm going to post picture eventually. It is going to be a while as I have got summer school classes and am no where near my aquarium room. I actually just had a disaster my four baby Payara died due to water problems. I'm going to put together a second tank and raise them up until they are much bigger before they go into the main tank. Pictures may be a while.

There are many species of Payara. Vampire Tetra and Saber Tusk Barracuda are other names that they are called.
