Black Arowana and a School of Payara

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds like a great combo, but yeah, start saving for a bigger tank!!
Here's a couple of pics I took recently at the Berlin Aquarium, this was one of teh SA tanks, had silvers, pbass, armartus, silver dollars, and piranha (yes piranha!). The silvers and armartus were huge, armartus probably close to 3', silvers 3'+ and thick. Check out the armartus tail in the bottom left corner of the third pic, the bass is a good 2'.....

That is exactly the kind of tank I want to put together. Black Arowana's and Armatus!

By the way my brother lived in Auckland for a year and said New Zealand is awesome.

It actually surprises me that the Black Belt Red Hooks and Red Belly Piranha are kept with the Armatus . If they fit in the Armatus mouth the Armatus would make a meal out of all of them. I have seen Piranha used as bait to catch Armatus.

The P's and silver dollars were pretty big, and I guess they keep them all well fed. Berlin Aquarium was beautiful, well worth the visit for anyone in the area.

NZ is ok, I've travelled a reasonable amount though and don't see the big fuss, there's plenty of other places just as nice (or nicer) I'd rather live...

Here's an update on my two Hydrolycus scomberoides plus a new Hydrolycus tatauaia. I'm aiming for three H. scomberoides and two H. tatauaia for a school in my 360 gallon. The growth on these guys is slow and steady. However I have a buffer school of silver dollars and can say the H. tatauaia is much more aggressive than the H. scomberoides.
