I do not see the OP mistreat the fish, what I see is he is doing surgery to speed up the process of healing the fish and make his fish. And yes I'm sure he sedated the fish before doing it. Otherwise the fish would be dead.
A murderer won't see a murderer as a sinner. You for once shouldn't be judging us. Not after what you did to your arowana. Yes I read that locked thread, but I decided not to comment. However, slicing of fins of a fish just for visual, that I will not stand by silently.

Fin nipping happens in the wild. There are fish in the wild live on that.

As far as playing God...when people cull their excess fish(some for their looks), they are playing god. I don't see much condemnation about that(maybe because all fish breeders do that).

The response to the OP is typical of MFK!!!!!!!!! This site is starting to hack me off really - people slating the OP without understanding what was originally written -

firstly the OP has seen similar operations posted on this site where people reacted the completed opposite - the "operations" where praised!!!!!!

secondly the OP lives in a country where it is difficult to get unusual fish - i can only imagine how he must have paid over the odds for it too.

so whats wrong with wanting to have a perfect fish after all?!

if the OP keeps his water clean then the fins will heal just fine.

all you flamers need to ease up - you should have asked for photos before and after and asked for an update when the aro healed or heals - if it dies then you could flame him.

like i said - typical reaction on MFK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont breed but from what I see people pick and choose which fish they want to raise, then use the others either as food for others (natural) or let them do their natural process in the tank (which most dont survive)

One thing I always found interesting is the reason captive fish probably have so many health problem is because we more or less skip the process of natural selection. People sell as many fish as they can and 95% of the those fish if they were in the wild wouldnt even make it to the juvi stage.

Sorry I am at work and have nothing better to do then respond the people I disagree with. I cant speak for every person who did not like the OP process, but I reacted the way I did because my interpretation was that the OP cut fish fins for his own good. There was nothing wrong with his fish as far as health was concerned.

It is great if the fish comes back looking 100x better but I cannot imagine suggesting surgery on every fish that doesnt look like the perfect fish you see on this site.

if you get upset over someone "flaming" on an internet site, you have some serious insecurity issues. its a forum with lots of different people, and different opinions.if you cant handle it,dont read, dont post, and stop crying about it!
if its such a flame fest the thread would have been closed a while ago.

I will admit I am having fun discussing this stuff, but it probably should be locked.

The problem is actually the traits we like in a fish may or may not be the traits that best ensure it to survive...long fin is a classic example.

haha. Sorry I offended you, just testing stuff out. testy geeeeese!

This is a common occurrence in certain parts of the world. I don't agree with it either but it happens a lot more than what people are aware of.
