what i have herd is BDs come from a secret location that takes 2 days trek throw the jungle which is only accessible at a certain time of the year

If BD came from the same place side by side with normal leos why don't we see a lot more

the 2 x BD i have seen in the flesh were both wild caught so its not a case of line breeding to get the better looking leos

BD may well be a leo variant but p14 was also thought to be a henlei variant until a few years back

BD's and regular leo's are found side by side in the xingu, I asked Patricia from Brazil at the symposium and she informed me they catch BD's and leo's in the same exact area of the river.

i wouldnt be so sure there mike, as you know i spent a week on the xingu and seen lot's and lot's of leo's coming in from the fishermen to the different internal shippers (they send the fish to the main exporters in places like Belem, Recife and sao paolo) but not a single BD, yes some very nice leo's but not one BD. but then at the different exporters places in Belem they had BD's there. now i know a week on the xingu is not long but a week in altamira is a life time, and i seen load's of fish pass through the place. the guy's where all saying they where from a different place and not caught with the regular Leo's. now i know the fishermen dont want to give up there secret locations;), but if what you say is true and BD's are caught in the same part of the river and are special leo's then why havent more been exported in the past? like the early 90's? and around the time of the first ban? (not sure when that was:confused:) i just think if they are from the same place as reg leo's then there would have been more offered in the past. just my thoughts sometimes crazy yes i know:D.

but the fact that she could not tell you exact locations does that not make you think that she is thoerizing like everyone else?, you would think that if she has seen this with her own eyes then she would be able to give exact locations?

i will have to agree with Kevaldo.:)
i also believe BD is not same species as Leo.

The charming stories of secret locations of enchanting rays aside, I really would like to see some sort of research literature on the subject. I checked my university library, but no go. Anyone know of anything published on the subject of the P. leopoldi?
