Black EBJD? Or a Hybrid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's most likly the TMS substrate then that has him so dark.

It is black Estes marine sand. He was almost all black when I got him at the pet store, he has actually gotten a lot more blue in my tank. The only thing I cant figure out is as to why he has red on the tips of his fin. I can't find any other ones that have that.

I like it. The EB that I had was more black than blue, and it's blue was darker than most blues. That fish totaly disapeared several months ago though.

How big is this fish? You might have 1 of the rare female EBJD, and she might just be soo dark because she is ready to spawn. All of my BGJD females turn nearly all black when they spawn.

he is not stressed, if a jd(normal or blue) is stressed the red on their fins fades, if they are healthy it darkens, his is nearly crimson. that is just one dark healthy baby ebjd. also the sand is probably what is making him dark. i will get you a pix of my dpjd.

she is a general dark gray in between her spangles. and has a small light patch on her head. she is the queen of my tank, untill the king(a red texan) comes. good luck with your dpebjd

I would argue that your fish will turn out to be much better looking than most of the baby blue specimens in about a year.

Here is a crappy phone pic of one my past specimens at 2" and then a pic of him at his prime. He then spawned a batch of blue gene fry that i am growing out now before being killed by his JD lover (the adult fish in the juvenile pic).

I am now crossing the BGJD fry to another EBJD...stay tuned

CHCLAUSE: Mine is about an inch, yeah mine looks just like yours did when yours was small. I hope mine turns our like yours, it's such a good looking fish. How long did it take for most of the black to go away on yours?

I have been looking online and can't find an EBJD that looks like this. This was the only one in the tank at my LFS. I was just wondering if this is actually an EBJD or some kind of hybrid. I want to know if i got ripped off. Thanks, Here's a pic. I've had him for about a week and he has shown a lot more blue.

i have a dark phase normal jd(they exist, shes not stressed) maybe he is a dpebjd dark phase electic blue jack dempsey

I have done some research on this so called dark phase jack dempsey. As of rite now they do NOT exist. With the numbers of darker jacks that are around I would guess that DPJD would be a cool new morph IF we can get enough of them together in a few tanks and actualy get enough of them to reproduce as "dark phase".
