Black EBJD? Or a Hybrid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have to agree that there is NO SUCH THING as a BLACK EBJD....
I also have to agree to FEED A VARIETY OF FOOD... Just like you, a fish needs a balanced diet.
As your fish grows the darker color will fade to blue. each, obviously, having a different pattern than the next. Whether it be the substrate, genes, mood, or diet... Cichlids change color all the time..

Example... My mated pair of EBJD (male) and Reg. Dempsey (female).

Notice how light she is...

I also wouldnt try for mating male and female from the same batch from your LFS as they are most likely brother and sister.

Good luck with your EBJD! I hope it lives a long healthy life

P.S. Anyone looking for Blue Gene fry.... Mine will be ready around the end of January.. I'll keep you posted. Shoot me a PM if interested. Thanks

Mine turned completely black the first time she jumped out of the tank.
She's done it twice. The second time it was with the lid ON the tank. She found a crack and used it. Idiot fish.

To the OP: Where did you get that Brooklyn Bridge decoration? That is SO COOL! If I set up a long tank I want to put one in.

I have a regular jack that stays black most of the time. He is only 2" and shares the tank with a much larger Midas at 9". The Midas does not even look at him at all but I feel that the jack is still always careful around the big guy and part of his coloration is due to this fact. The fish was much different in color at the store with the other jacks as tankmates. In fact he was the top dog in that tank. Other than the color being dark, he eats like a pig.
