He is about 2.5 inches now, and healthy

I read this thread completely.Your growth rate is slow if you're measuring accurately. Some just don't grow. He has started developing a beak nose which is not a desirable trait. Curious as to your other blue you bought.
Check out my link to my blue. You'll see the growth and colors. All pictures are the same EBJD male except one picture which is a female.

Leviathan64 that is an awesome blue dempsey.

tbr0ther- What do you feed and how often? The beak isnt that bad yet. You need to fatten that little guy up!

We feed him twice a day, he eats new life spectrum. Idk if my measurement estimates are right, they are just guesses. Hopefully his beak nose doesn't get any worse.

I'd give the little devil some variety if it was me. Some frozen bloodworms and a second kind of pellets. Good chance you are underestimating growth too, if you watch him all the time you see small amounts of growth.

Thanks, well ur supposed to only feed your fish new life spectrum, its says it works better that way, but ill try some frozen stuff. Yeah I probably am underestimating growth, all the fish around him are growing to so its hard to tell how big he is.

Variety of food(multiple feedings a day), water changes( small amounts more frequently) and keeping him the dominate fish of the tank is what worked for me. Having a good bloodline helps too. Thanks for the compliments on my blue. I have to thank Arnold aka Hollywood for producing a good fish. He's 3 years old and going strong.

Yeah ill buy some frozen food. He's not the dominant fish, he is the smallest fish in the tank haha. He doesn't get bullied or anything, sometimes he bothers fish twice his size.

I would definately be interested in an update. I have been sticking with my theory that the blue dempsey with more black spots and coloration are healthier and show better conformation (have the body shape of a standard dempsey).

some times my ebjds have huge black spots then they go away.

mood water food lighting all affect how they look
