Adding black water isnt going to make the pectoral fins thinner---

True, but the black river mbenga is a small side shoot, of the main river, read that as the water flow is more powerful in the Congo river, one of the most powerful rivers in the world. That difference in the power of the rivers would affect the thickness of the pectoral fins, and a possible difference in chemistry/dissolved solids/tannins etc.. may affect color. :)

Two separate characteristics, two separate variables.

Science, rationality, and logic.

This is begining to remind me of the problem behind classifying L200 and L128, it is hypothesized that the variation in color (from black through blue and olive green, to bright neon green) is all due to chemistry in the river since the color of the fish correlates with their location along the river. Darker towards the north, lighter towards the south. Although each has been classified as a separate species, scientific study is still needed to explain why their color is affected by their location along the river.

Could this be the case with black GATF? Water chemistry is affecting color during the embryo stage, and fin thickness connected to water flow? Science will tell...

The NatGeo program covering a major study about the Goliaths in the congo river found that the genetic make up varied between populations of the goliaths, and that life evolves much faster in the congo river due to the numerous microcosms found all in the same river divided by the strong flow of water.

Meaning that the GATF are evolving right in front of our eyes...

not all fish turn dark when they die, many turn white, and tigers certainly don't turn black. for all those people who hate, doubt, sour grapes., hope this answers your question. i've had tigers fresh dead, to dead for years, in and out of water, non of which turned black. so stop hating. Please refer to these pictures, I took them, I have more pictures of dead tigers, different stages of death, I'll post them up when I find them....

If your talking to me about 'hating'? I would love to see this fish for real! And this is my Dream fish aswell! Thanks for the info!

Is that all you are offering for a black morph goliath, $10K ? That won't get you far... This is one fish on my list that I want and I don't think it will go for as low as you are requesting...

Lets say someone did bring one in. 4-5"...What would it fetch in this Market?

just a quick question, if someone got you the black GATF, your other GATF's have died right?

not a good investment. $10,000 down the drain. I would make sure I could raise a normal GATF before buying the holy grail

As requested here is a pic. Ill see if I can get the local name for the black river.

Love the pics. that's the best book ever for these fish. Or at least that I'm aware of.

Is that.... crayon? lol j/k

That is the congo river which the black river branches off of correct?

Yes. Its supposed to be VERY VERy hard to navitgate b/c of the flow rates and the sandbars and hangup spots. then durning the rainy season most fish move into the trees for better shots at food. so then it's still hard to collect/fish b/c all the trees in the way.

Let just say that pending pics of a speciem that's what I'm willing to do. Now you're more likley then not right the going price could be more. but It seems no one is willing to look for this fish. Assuming that someone can find one and they watn 20K for it he's all yours David. ;) and just remeber the leg work done here. lol

4 of the 5 did die. but these along with other rare fish just die. Two of mine were killed by means that I know. One was from getting ate by another fish and the other got fried by a heater so two did die for reasons that I do not know. But one is doing great.

HEY LOOK AT THE E-PUNK HE'S BACK.

Hey fool get out my thread you have been reported. Thank you ;)

i like looking at this thread just to see what all the clowns have to say. Koop, i'm rooting for you though. I'd like to see you get one.

Frankly im embarrassed by the lack of support you members of a COMMUNITY have given one of your members. Look up the definition of community and see if you can function at that capacity, if not then think about the underlying reasons why you posted here and why you are on this website. Good luck Koop and I hope you find your unicorn!
