that is a good theory as well. I have some photos of h. vittatus spawning in private aquaria in Japan, and they did not change colours, of course goliath could be different.

Like you say, the hobby is only interesting if there are fish out there that can capture not only our interest but imagination as well. The one day there are no longer fish left to find, no more that captures our imagination, is the day I'll stop keeping fish.

fugupuff, can you post the pics? Or do you already have them posted in an old thread. i'd love to see them,...............

i've posted them in a old tiger fish thread, maybe someone can dig it up. I'm not sure if I can find it on my computer, its from an old issue of Aqua life, I have hundreds, will take me days to find it :)

BGATF ,that would be the ultimate.

Fugu the picture you posted of the dead one that had a streak of black on it's head is quite interesting. Such a pronounce jaw structure. There is a difference in Goliath appearance as it's evident from the first one I received from Japan sometime ago compared to a few of the recent ones collected.

Just like the documentary about Goliaths on the Nat Geo Ch. In the future we could expect to see a SUPER GOLIATH's from how the river keeps evolving new species based on the complexity of the river system. It's incredible how two fish of the same specie can evolve from something different based on the fact that they can't interact. Highly because of the current of the river. Only seperated by opposite river banks, incredible.

Good luck Koop on your search for the elusive BGATF.

Hey Dave,
My friend, Teru is going to go to black river to fish BGTF next month.
He is one of the world record breakers on fishing.
I asked him to bring huge head to Japan !!! It's so hard to carry them alive to the stock yard to export.

I love this thread:)
Cheers
Seiichi

I would have to say from the Pic you have posted of teru's fishing trips he's about the best bet we got of someone besides douglas dann catching one of these.

Oh well the hunt continues.

I've heard many stories of this Teru fellow, he's one crazy guy, he is a good bet on catching one. From what I gathered, he's not fished for tiger fish yet, hope he makes it! I had the chance of meeting him, but we couldn't communicate at all.

If you got David and Seiichi on the same thread, you know its rare :) I thought maybe you might have one at home already :D

Very soon you'll see all these so called, new species, and black goliaths popping up, people trying to pass a regular tiger fish as the real deal!

lol doesn't that suck. I hate when that happens. His pics are allways amazing. Let hope he can if nothing more catch one and take pics so we can get recent photos of one.

I know the original intent of this thread was to track down a BGATF to buy; however I think at this point the conversation has transcended the banter of the buy/sell forum and should be moved to a regular discussion forum.
it would be a shame to see this thread locked and buried when its 21 days are up. Just my opinion....
