My Jacks would turn lighter too when stressed or before and right after waterchange.
I've owned a couple and have had hundreds of fries.
Dark colors seemed to be a trait more common in females.
Both genders would also darken up during breeding.
A time when we say cichlids should be least stressed.
I'm a little confused on this dark colors = stressed JDs too...
I've also always preferred a large JD with nice dark purple tone to him.
This girl was very dark normally and almost turn black when spawning.
