I am setting up a new 125. I currently have a tank with white play sand and I like that but considering black sand. The background will be painted black. Can I see some current setups with Black BGs and either black or white sand.
Thanks

I agree the price is higher for black sand vs play sand and I would be willing to pay the extra if I can find it for a reasonable price.

I use black sand in most of my tanks.. have 4 set up now just with black sand. I love it. But if you are going to do a black background and then use black sans, I dont think you will like it. I had a dark background on one of my tanks that had black sand in it just didnt look right. Even though Im a black sand lover, if you do a black background, Id do pure white sand.

I have a black on black tank now, and the fish in it(any of them) will darken up and their colors REALLY come out. The down side is that is real dark(duh ;) )...I also only have one T5 bulb now, 48" HomeDepot fixture w/8000K bulb, with a little more light I may change my mind...

Maybe a (dark) red background with an all black substrate would look better too, will have to try this next time.

The images aren't the best, and these were just after setting up...Much clearer now.

That tank looks good. I have a small tank that is black on black and I agree it seems to bring out the color on the fish. I actually have an overkill lighting system and I have always loved the black background. So Either black sand to make colors pop or white to create contrast.

Anyone else have pics of their own setups with black or white sand.

have white sand now. i like it, but i think i wanna go black next. so i vote black sand

play sand is usually all around better but black sand looks cool..

Here is my 55 that I just added black sand to. I love the look of black sand but white sand could be neat as well. I may have to try it some time...
