Black Pete

I used to live in Philly until I moved to Las Vegas (yes people do live here) when I was 10. Philadelphia has ALOT more African Americans around then they do out here, or in the West (minus California) for that manner. I noticed that many people out here still have this "cautiousness" about African Americans that I didn't have in Philly since there were many more around and multiple races grew up around each other. Just wondering your thoughts on all this @phillydog1958 (and NO Eagles talk haha)
I know this is not directed to me.. but really, there are still people that are cautious about them?
Well I suppose it's not much different here. In the bigger cities most people are used to different cultures, while in small villages they would stare at someone that is not white.

Yes it some places it is. There are a number of towns in some places (Utah cough cough lol) that have never seen a black person in person lol. People are scared of what is different. And things can't become familiar if they are never in contact

Yeah, wasn't sure what you were trying to imply with the cave remark but for a little more understanding on how some here might have a problem with your fine old traditional image, look up and research the term blackface..

I don't have a tradional image. My girlfriend is black like I said, and I work in an American multinational with a lot of different cultures in the same building.
Also I don't care if someone is white, brown, black or purple.

But I do care when someone moves to another country and then has the nerves to start talking about their traditions/culture. That's just disrespectful and something you don't do. So yes then I would gladly sent them back, and I think most people have that opinion. Although the way I wrote it down looked like I am some kind of jerk.

Allright let's see what blackface is.
*hmm that looks just like black pete.. and it says that it is to display a black person.
Maybe it wasn't the climbing through the chimney after all.

blackface is considered offensive though....an actress here just recently came under fire for it and is apologizing over her halloween costume
This has got to be a difference in culture or something, because I see absolutely nothing offensive in it. Can you explain what's offensive about it? I mean it's not like they are insulting or making fun of someone.

Yeah Blackface is considered really offensive here, and Black Pete fits that description perfectly, that's the reason that guy is complaining about it.

They even changed a pokemon because of a blackface accusation

I think that is a very good argument and may be the reason yes.
Blackface.. well I learn something new every day.

But my point is also, that as white person you are instantly being seen as a racist when you your opinion in a way that is a little too harsh. While if you are black, you can get away with it way easier.

Because a while ago I read this:
"Obama is widening the race gap, rather than working to make a more race-blind society.

In late July, Obama signed an executive order that lets black students get away with bad behavior. Not only is this discriminatory, it also does more harm than good.

What's that all about? I have no idea what this means in practice, but havier punishments for white students that sounds way more racist to me then black pete. What if a white president said to punish black students harder? I know one thing for sure and that is that all hell would break loose.
