Black Pete

Okay, that's your answer...The Wayans brothers pretty much minstrelize themselves in all of their films anyway so dressing up as females is par for their course..In blackface acts and performances from years ago, only the people who were "copied"were the butt of the jokes so it's not the same....I haven't seen Tropic Thunder but I have heard that is funny.

I know what you're talking about regarding the old blackface acts and I disagree with them as well. I think lep was just saying that in 2013, if you're in blackface or white face without it being for racist reasons, that it's not that big of a deal anymore.

If that is what he was trying to say then fine....we are all well aware of the year we are living in but the subject of this thread topic was not created this year.Someone raised an interesting point a few posts ago...if the elves are as innocent as some suggest then why are their costumes not covered in soot as well as their faces?

Yesterday I just read contradicting stories. There's no doubt in my mind based on the songs and acting that he's meant to depict a dim witted black servant. However, he's suppose to be black from chimney diving and never washing it off his skin. Too stupid to know better.

I used to live in Philly until I moved to Las Vegas (yes people do live here) when I was 10. Philadelphia has ALOT more African Americans around then they do out here, or in the West (minus California) for that manner. I noticed that many people out here still have this "cautiousness" about African Americans that I didn't have in Philly since there were many more around and multiple races grew up around each other. Just wondering your thoughts on all this @phillydog1958 (and NO Eagles talk haha)

You're making a good and fair point. The old cities of the NE are more diverse, and I think that people might be more tolerant of one another's differences, as long as their isn't a threat, or what they perceive to be a threat. By the way, I live in Wichita, KS, where the minority population is smaller. The midwest is a very conservative political base, and with the political climate as it currently is, I'm seeing some racial tension develop. But, that could probably be seen almost anywhere in the country, right now. It was nice to see the Eagles win yesterday. Go Eagles! And, how about those Sixers? They beat Miami and Chicago within the past few weeks.

you are entirely correct in the assumption that this is probably racist in origin( at least imo) ,, but things being what they are in today's society, there isn't a whole lot we can do about clowns like him .. exept hope he goes quietly into the night before other racists think they need to come to his rescue and "protect his rights"..

Im sorry but it is 2013. Blackface is NOT offensive. If the movie White Girls can be made and isnt offensive then neither is blackface, or at least thats my stance. Nor is Black pete. What a freakin joke.

I think "White Girls" was offensive. Black face has no place in America. Minstrel shows are a joke.
