I think "White Girls" was offensive. Black face has no place in America. Minstrel shows are a joke.

I wasn't offended by Robert Downey Jr. That's different. I laughed at him and admired his talent to pull it off.

sorry but you gotta pick a side. either you find it offensive all across the board or you don't

sumo, i don't think the context of white chicks is any different then the old minstrel shows which were plays, songs and dances parodying black people. they were parodying white girls. the only difference is they didn't make movies back then because well, you know why.

and yes, i meant downey, my bad

I can appreciate your point, but the difference between what Downey did and a minstrel show is that minstrel shows are meant to mock and belittle through racial stereotypes. Downey's character was a positive character. He didn't mock or belittle African Americans. These things need to be taken into context and not out. The other point is that when that movie was released, it didn't raise the racial thermometer in this country, by one, single degree. There was no discussion from the media nor any African American civil rights groups. That's a true indicator of how the movie was perceived by the general public. Plus, it's not BLACK face. It's professional Hollywood makeup. Black face is not. it's an extremely unnatural exaggeration of our skin tone.

not all white girls in California are airheads. just sayin

I can't believe anyone would find white girls offensive. are people just completely ignoring the context? I see it as nothing more than a comedy about two black dudes going undercover as white girls

I don't think you meant deniro

No offense to white women/girls from California . . . Of course not. I don't perpetuate stereotypes. That's the gist of my argument. Stop nitpicking. :D

Downey's character made a bunch of stereotypical black jokes. I think if you find white girls offensive, it should be the same with downey's character. I will admit white girls mocking and stereotype jokes were way more blatant and in your face but that's kind of what they were going for

Eddie I agree that white girl is the same as those you mentioned, I just disagree that it's offensive. But I think today's day and age they don't mean the same thing. I guess that's what I was trying to say

anybody have thoughts on EDDIE MURPHY PLAYING "old Jewish guy"..along with other roles, IN THE barber shop scene of "COMING TO AMERICA"...at the time I found it funny, not so sure those stereotypes would fly in 2013

Bottom line, someone will always be offended by something. It's just what it is

I just hate to see it perpetuated , in the name of art(comedy)for a quick buck or an attention grab

I'm offended by the lack of asians being mocked and racially stereotyped in movies. All I got is Mr chow from the hangover recently. What's up with that?
