hahahahaha:ROFL: perhaps some day...

i've been part of a piranha only forum for some time now, everybody there, even the newbies know the a rhom is a piranha, if you think other wise then you shouldn't give advice about p's at all.

i think ill just stick to my piranha only fourms...:)

I suggest the same, with out meaning any nastiness behind it. If you stick with those forums you will learn quicker and be around more/other piranha hobbyists at the same level as you. Our piranha community is quite small, but that is not to say we don’t have experts and newbies alike. But be sure to stick around MFK for the other forums to fill other interests in the hobby.

I am 100% confident that in the future you will realise your error on what you said. We all make errors and wrong assumptions when fresh, for many reasons. But experience and more time gathering knowledge will prevail.

not to mention that, any good p keeper wouldn't keep 4 rbp in a 25 gallon aquarium;)

Quite true XR on both replies. His stocking is fine until they hit 3 inches I recon, so one more month and he will be 'stuffed'. I think our friend here needs to do more research (particularly at specialist piranha sites as he suggests) before giving advice. I recon he means no harm, he just needs time before he realises his errors. Surely he must catch on to the number of experienced and knowledge hobbyists telling him the same thing....

I think it is fair to say we are all willing to help out the less knowledgeable in this area … if they are prepared to listen to us and accept what he have to say when a number of us say the same thing. Am I right?

your right... good thing i have my 200 cycleing.. are you framiler with opefe? i messaged frank off of the site about "rhom v. pygo" because you guys had me doubting myself. i cant copy and past into the text box for some reason but anyway the message i got back said something to the effect of,

the definition by G.S. Myers (1972) was based on what natives in south america considered a dangerous species. based on that research adn the other local natives applied to other "harmless" species such as priambeba, "true prianha" was applied solely to pyhocentrus whenever natives were asked to differentiate dangerious and non-dangerous. HOWEVER, outside south amercia the name does apply LOOSELY to all fishes in the genera as piranha INCLUDING vegetarian pacus. as for s. rhombeus, depending on whre you are, the fish is called pirambeba or some other native name, LOOSELY it is called a piranha, though considered NON-DANGEROUS.

Technically Phantasticfish is correct, ony genus pygocentrus is recognized to be a "true" piranha. http://www.angelfire.com/biz/piranha038/genusPygocentrus.html Like mentioned earlier serrasalmus is considered to in a different class. Don't get me wrong I myself consider a rhom, manuelli or any other serra to be a piranha however scientifically it's not.

well scientificly it may be, but the fact remains that it is classified along with all the other serra's to be a piranha, so it is end of story. but those were interesting reads, but there really was no need to go off on this tangent about all this "true" or not true piranha stuff, when the poster of this thread only wanted the tank size for a rhom, though it was interesting.

My only reason posting on this was to hopefully end the back and forth argument on who is right and who is wrong because it's obvious that nobody was backing down from their views. From a scientific standpoint PF is right, from a hobbyist standpoint XR and Joshy are right. :)
