just a quick note; if you buy a small rhom it will NEVER get to 16" in captivity. most grown out ones get to about 12-14"

well accually i have seen probly 20 that were over 14", they are rare because it does take a long time, but i have seen 17" and 18" ers

i agree but they need alot of room and need to be fed alot of healthy food so they will grow the more room they have and the better they are fed they will grow better

those were caught at that size not grown out...

not neccerilly, you'd have to ask all of those people if i'm not mistaken, imo with proper husbandry, you could grow them out to that

On this bit of the debate there is not much solid fact documented to say for sure either way. But my opinion is that you can only grow a captive rhom from young, to 14-15 inches tops. All of the big ones I have seen or heard of, have been wild caught close to the monster size they were.

Of course, if you gave a young rhom hundreds of gallons of water, perfect water stats, and a excellent diet from the start, who knows…

guys, i only wanted the tank size for a friggen piranha. not to find out whether it is a true piranha or not. geez!!!!

 That is what happens on boards. People don't see eye to eye and things can get :topic: But look at it this way you have probably learned something new, who would have thought serrasalmus (scientifically) was not a true piranha :WHOA: Great debate guys.
