3-4 years ago I was in the market for a few leo's. I should have got them then when I thought the price was crazy.

JASON, I KNOW U DIDNT WANT TO HERE FROM BIZ GUYS, BUT HERES MY OPINION. JUST A FEW YEARS AGO RAYS SOLD AT THE WHOLESALER FOR 250.00 DOLLARS. I HAD 6 OF THEM. ALONG WITH MANY SNAKEHEADS, AND BLUE EYED PLECOS. WHENEVER ANYONE IN THE US IS TOLD THEY CANT HAVE SOMETHING THEY WANT IT EVEN MORE. MOST OF THESE FISH WERE A DIME A DOZEN. PEOPLE THAT STARTED BREEDING A FEW YEARS AGO LIKE MIKE WERE THE SMART ONES. I USED TO BREED RAZXORS EDGE PITBULLS. ONE OF THE FIRST PEEPS IN INDIANA TO BUY DOGS FROM THE FOUNDER DAVE WILSON. I WAS GETTING 3,000 A POP FOR PUPS. AS SOON AS EVERYONE THOUGHT THAT THEY COULD SPEND 6 GRAND ON A PAIR AND GET RICH THINGS STARTED TO FLOOD. NOW U CAN BUY A R.E. PIT ANYWHERE AND GUYS ARE HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING 500-1,000 FOR PUPS. IT IS TRUE THAT ASIA GETS ALL THE BEST FISH. THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY MORE. AND WITH IT BEING WARM ALL YEAR LONG WITH OUTSIDE BREEDING FACILITIES THEY PRODUCE ALOT MORE FISH FOR ALOT LESS COST. I JUST PURCHASED A BLACK RAY FROM MIKE. AND IVE ASKED HIM IF HE WOULD GIVE DISCOUNTS FOR QUANTITIY. IF HE WOULD COME DOWN TH 1.000 EACH I WOULD BYE 10 RIGHT NOW. HES SMART THOUGH. HE STICKS TO HIS PRICE AND HE GETS IT. HIS QUALITY IS GREAT AND HE BREEDS SMART. THESE FISH WONT COST MORE THAN 300-400 EACH TO IMPORT. JMO. AND THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY OF RAYS IN THE WILD RIGHT NOW. SOON IN A COUPLE YEARS THE MARKET WILL BE FLOODED AGAIN, AND THE PRICE WILL DROP. UNTIL THEN PEOPLE GONNA GET EVERY PENNY THEY CAN. ITS THE AMERICAN WAY

If I was able to produce enough pups in large numbers I would not have any problems selling them to you for 1000 each anyday of the week, But I simply cannot produce enough at the moment. As for price of 300-400 each I wish the exporters in Brazil were selling for othat cheap but there asking 2-3x that much at the moment and threatening to sell all there quotas to companies in Asia unless you can take 100+ pieces. There going to milk the quota for every dollar they can get at the moment you can COUNT on that. One more thing to think about with marbled motoro, tigers and flowers selling for 300-800 each do you guys really think black rays will be less then those?

haha yeh I tried that quantity thing with Mike a long time ago. Crystal- your exactly rght on the Edge I've shut mine down to just $$$$ family dogs.

Prices of rays are up across the board. Even now the US is finally willing to pay more for nice marbles or else they will keep going overseas. You know yourself with a really nice wild caught marble for sell around a grand, no way a wild caught Leo would be less.

May of 2005 I sold a pair of 12 inch leopoldi for 500 dollars shipped. That was just 3 short years ago. I wanted to get rid of them as they were my last pair and I needed to break down the tanks. I ask you where were all the people who dream about owning a Leopoldi and who are willing to pay 5000 dollars. Simple answer they didnt want them because they were available. People want what they cant have. When rays were banned from export thats when people gained a Bigger appetite. They want what they cant get...........Same for asia they want the rare fish what do you think will happen to the demand when every asian owns a leopoldi or they are offered in every store in asia?

Leos from Brazil cost 55 dollars each 3 years ago for any size (4 inch pup to box bending behemoth) add another 50 dollars for freight etc and yes there were quotas back then as well. I dont know if they will go back to that low of a price but I will bet if the rivers stay open within a few years they will come down into a normal price range. WHO REALLY CARES WHAT THEY ARE WORTH, IF YOU LIKE THE FISH YOU LIKE THE FISH,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OR DO YOU???????????

Ask some of the Sr people who have been in this industry for 20 plus years and they will tell you all sorts of stories about prices and demand. Does anyone know what Tigrinus cats sold for 20 years ago? How about the first asian parrot fish? How about the first Temensis peacock bass? etc etc

If everyone thought with their heads and voted with their wallets leopoldi wouldnt be selling for the high prices they are today,, instead everyone gets all up in arms and has a big dick contest about who can spend the most.

If I was selling now I would want them to be worth 10,000 each as well so Im not bashing any dealers.

When I read these posts I just see alot of "Green" people making outlandish statements about a market they know little about.

Do any of you remember in 1999 or so when Leos werent available? This type of thing happens every few years it doesnt mean you should go insane and start paying 30k per fish but hey thats just me.

Dont get me wrong if its a business I see the point but if its just a hobby or a pet well than you just flushed 20 times what the fish is worth down the toilet because you got hung up on HYPE

I myself indulge in wasteful things for the enjoyment so I guess Im the pot calling the kettle black. who knows......

ps Tigers and Flowere ALWAYS sold for more than black rays.......

Tigers were the most expensive WC ray for many many many years....

ps Mike Im not trying to get into a pissing match with you, Good luck with your operation.....
