Black rays...who is buying one when/if they land?

the statement about them threatening to sell to asia unless you take 100 plus pieces makes little sense to me.... Everyone knows that exporters would make more money selling them to all their importers and using them as bargaining chips to sell more Bread and butter fish species....

example.. yes I can get you 5 leos a week but you have to spend 5k on bread and butter... this is always the way the fish business has operated.

Exporters didnt like if you just wanted the special or rare items that are in short supply and would rather sell to someone who will take weekly shipments of bread and butter for years and years.

ps Tigers and Flowere ALWAYS sold for more than black rays.......

Tigers were the most expensive WC ray for many many many years....

No worries John it's all cool. I understand they used to be the most expensive WC rays and thats my point with the demand and popularity of black rays how could they ever cost less then a flower or tiger. As of right now it's a one year quota only there are no plans for a future quota yet. Also have to take into consideration there are size restrictions this time no smaller then 9" and no bigger then 13" that alone brings the cost up on rays and shipping etc. It's only a matter of time before we see what is really going to happen just have to sit back and wait. As for bread and butter since there asking crazy prices for rays there is no need for them to push the other fish as no one has tried it yet with me. Times have changed things are not the same anymore and most likely never will.

do you know that for years Marbles were sold are regular motoros from Colombia for 25-35 dollars each plus freight. They were just called Motoros,,, but now since the fisherman and exporters can surf the web they cherry pick the nicer ones and put em on the list as marbled or royal and doubled the price.. they are now 50-60 each.

2 per box = about 85 each landed....... add another 50-85 to that and the importer sells to the store who doubles that so u have yourself a 300 dollar ray. they have been this price for years. anyone who pays 1000 plus better get themselves the sickest marble motoro ever....

I KNOW MIKE. YOU MADE A GREAT POINT ABOUT THE COST OF THEM COMING IN. PERSONALLY, I WOULD BUY A CB RAY BRFORE A WILD CAUGHT ANY DAY. AND FROM U FOR SURE. THAT WAY I KNOW WHAT IM GETTING. BUYING WILD RAYS SHOULD BE LEFT TO THE BREEDERS AND THE PROS. MIX THE BLOOD UP. IT SOUNDS LIKE MIKE HAS A PASSION FOR BREEDING RAYS NOT JUST FOR MONEY. I am definately for the size restrictions,, I can tell you that the young pups had the highest mortality rate and were always the least attractive,,, leave em in the river to grow......

best size was always 8-12 inch,, hardy and strong *******.

Look at real estate all the newb investors within the last 8 years thought u couldnt lose in real estate but the wise older salts who have been at it for 30 plus years knew what it was like in the past and knew that day would come again..... Look at all the GREEN real estate investors and brokers and mortgage brokers sitting around with their ***** in their hands....

No I am not aware of any market conditions from years past. I don't see the market regressing at all and actually believe someone new learns of FW rays each day and is still growng. I guess I see what is happening now and what happened years ago doesnt have as much relevance as all might think because of the great strides made by the hobby as a whole- worldwide!

No disrespect meant, I'm sure you know more than I could ever hope to learn.
